Hello all.

I'm a new poster here and just wanted to say HELLO. I am pretty much set on wanting to go to medical school and becoming a physician, but I am at the first step...and that's doing a post bacc. This is because:

- Cum. Undergrad GPA = 2.78 (B.S. in Biomedical Engineering 2003)
- 1 year experience as a BME w/ a medical device design/manufacturer (then I got laid off...heh - and I feel I'd be much more fulfilled and happier pursuing medicine rather than engineering)
- 6 years experience as an Emergency Medical Technician
- Currently waiting to hear back on a per-diem Nursing Asst. position at a local hospital, but I'm pretty sure I got the position. 😀

Right now, I am taking a few undergrad courses at a community college - Microbiology w/lab & Anatomy/Physiology w/lab (avergaing a 4.0 in both). I have yet to take the MCATs. I've actually applied to several Physician Assistant schools, but when I thought about it a bit more, I have the resources and believe I will be able to handle physician training following my post-bacc (being how I'm a bit more focused on my goals than I was 4 years ago as a freshman in college).

I just wanted to get a general consensus from you guys about what my chances would be if I were to say...apply now compared with applying after completing a post-bacc M.S. geared towards entry into medical school.

It may be a bit early, but I want to take this one step at a time and to get it done the right way the first time. Any advice is appreciated! 🙂

You probably have a good shot, but you are going to need a strong MCAT and solid post bac grades to make up for the 2.78. Good luck.

True true...thanks, man 🙂

I've got a long hard road ahead...

Well, you have a lot of really awesome experience. If you can maintain a really high gpa in your post back program, then you definitely still have a shot at medical school. I had a few BME friends who got into med schools with 2.7's. So don't give up 🙂

Thanks! You know a few BMEs that got in with a 2.7? Whoa. Would you happen to know which schools they got accepted to?
