The last time I was out there it was Dearani, I thought. How is Dr. Heller? Anything about her or how her tenure has influenced the program would be helpful.
Are you inquiring about GENERAL Surgery or THORACIC Surgery (Dearani is PD of the latter)?
I liked her. She seemed to genuinely care About the education and welfare of the residents.
She's been there as PD of the GS department for at least 6 years, so not "new".
I made a mistake in remembering positions/titles, I'm sorry.

I think she was fairly new when I was there....getting old
Robert Shen is PD of Thoracic residency now, Derani is chair.
As I'm not at Mayo, I have no comment 🙂 Would not be surprised if your numbers are accurate though, as the packages offered are usually quite substantial.
