Sorry for the somewhat neurotic post....

But for people who took the new MCAT and are getting interviews/acceptances what is the range of scores that DO schools are looking for?

Is it pretty much straight converting the percentages from the scores they preferred in the past to the new scale?

I realize that GPA, extracurricular activities, etc all play a part in the process

But is the range (from the newer schools to the schools that have traditionally preferred a high MCAT) the same in terms of the percentiles they are looking for?

thanks

500+ will give you a decent chance if you apply broadly and have a strong application elsewhere. Lower than that is risky.

There are a couple good threads on here that explain the conversions. I believe it is pretty direct based on percentiles. You want 125+ in each section ideally.

These all align with the 50th percentile, which seems to be a magic number for DO schools, but a 124 won't kill you most places.

500 and better

thank you Goro!

I have 505+ and I am still without any interviews 🙁
pray for me, haha

I've seen people on here with 499 and getting interviews. I got a 501 with a 123 in one section and just got my first interview (gpa 3.3ish). Just depends on the school I guess.

My advice would be to not be so worried about breaking the 500 mark and shoot more for like a 507-508. That leaves room for test day jitters and gives you a buffer region to still do well. If you go in expecting exactly a 500 you're not doing yourself any favors. Set a high standard, don't just go for average.

I have a 502 and I'm just starting to be complete at schools. I've been complete at NOVA for maybe 2 weeks?

I'll make a longer post about it soon... But all I'm going to say now is one number does not define who you are. It is not ALL about getting "500 or better". A low MCAT will not keep you out of medical school if you have amazing experiences, leadership, research, high GPA, great letters, great interview etc. Shoot for the best you can do and believe in yourself.

when did you apply?

I have a 502 with a 123 in CARS and lower end GPAs (cGPA 3.49 sGPA 3.21) and I have an interview after only being complete for a 5-6 days. Anything is possible, stats aren't everything, the application season is long, cheers!
