Santa brought me an invite to UNM for Christmas. (mail on christmas?!) Sat. Jan 26th, 7:45am. Anybody else gonna be there?

Me!!!

I got it on Monday, but we forgot to bring the mail in till this morning, so it was a very good Christmas surprise.

Congrats, and I will see you there!

Me tooo! What a great Christmas it is! =)

is it true they take very little out of state people?? OP what state are you from?

I want to apply here but figured I might have a slim chance so I might hold out on it. There PCAT minimum is very inviting though....only 30!

I'll be flying in from Florida. Might end up staying the whole weekend because my flight options are not very attractive.

According to the Pharmcas website, they accept 10 out of state students every year. The whole class size is 85. It also says on PharmCAS that last year they only interviewed 100 people. If that is true for this year as well, I am liking those odds. I am from Tennessee, and my dad and I are going to fly in and spend a few days in town. It'll be a nice mini-vacation.

They don't publish it, but I have heard the out-of-state minimums are higher than in-state. I would recommend calling or e-mailing them and asking. I was going to do this after the holidays, even though I had already submitted my application, but I got my interview invite first, so I am afraid I don't have a surefire answer.

Good luck in your apps!

I have an interview on the 26th as well...I guess i'll see you guys there! (even though I don't know who you are 😛)

Admissions Statistics per UNM website:

Percent of Qualified Applicants Admitted 8%

Haha, I had my suspicions that PharmCAS was a little off. Maybe a crossed line of communication or something. Accepting 50% of interviewees makes much more sense than 85%.

would you guys mind sharing your stats...also if anyone has some idea about the minimum GPA for instate student and the PCAT minimum??

GPA: 3.33
Science: 3.33
PCAT: 95
-BA in Biology from Wellesley, minor in History
-have worked for last six months as a compounding technician at a community pharmacy
-not a ton of extracurriculars/community service

According to their website, they require a 2.2 GPA to apply, but say a 2.5 is competitive. PharmCAS says their minimum PCAT requirement is a 30th percentile.

Congratz to all of you who got an invite. Were u invited to fill out the supplementals or did u go ahead and do it?

As far as I understand it for New Mexico, you have to fill out the supplemental and send in the payment before your application will be considered complete. So if you have already submitted the PharmCAS, then definitely fill out the supplemental. It can be done online, though you do have to physically mail them a photo and a check.

Good luck on your interview guys!!!!!

See you guys in the morning, Good Luck!!

I'm from arizona (phoenix)... interviewing tomorrow...

Is it bad that I am more nervous about the flight (afraid of flying) than the interview :scared:

From what I have heard... and this is very second hand so I don't know if it is valid... they are trying to interview the majority of the out of state students this weekend. Therefore most of us will be out of staters. I beleive last year they accepted 12 non-residents, so the competition is stiff!!!

Can't wait to meet you guys!

Sorry I'm late in my reply but I wanted to say GOOD LUCK to all of you interviewing at the UNM COP! I'm currently a pre-pharm at UNM and will bust my butt to apply for Fall '09.
:luck: :luck: :luck:

good luck (I guess the interviews were today)

I'm a 3rd year at UNM, from Tucson, AZ (go Wildcats) so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

So... What did everybody think?

The desert was colder than I expected.

As for the interview, pretty chill, aside from the writing exercise. I thought it ended rather informally though. Everywhere else I've been had "closing statements" from the adcoms. Like: "expect to hear from us in XX days/weeks", "for the lucky ones, $XXXX deposit will be due in XX days"
, etc.

It was nice to have so much time to hang out and get the opinions of the current students though.

I really enjoyed the interview day... it flew by! All the interviewees seemed on top of their game... so the competition is stiff for us out-of-staters. I also heard just about everyone say that they rocked their interview... I guess only time will tell. My confidence level goes down a little bit each day as I overanalyze my answers. Luckily I have an interview at Midwestern-CPG in a couple weeks to distract me.

They said they will send out some acceptances in two weeks right? I wonder if they will send out wait-lists and denials on the same day... I just wish I could stop thinking about it!

word on the street here is that they're waiting until may for all acceptances - but that may be the in-state people.

You are correct. They told us May for the in-state applicants. They said two weeks for some of the lucky out-of-staters.

I got my letter this morning! I am so freaking happy!!!!!!

I hope the rest of you hear back soon, and the news is just as good. Aaaaaaaaahhhhh, I need to go run around in circles for a while.

Following is my GPA as calculated by PharmCAS...still waiting for getting the results of the jan PCAT

Overall GPA 3.11
Science 2.99
Non science 3.00
Math 3.32

I m an instate student and doing my prereq at UNM...have a lot of extracurricular work but its not related to pharmacy..was also on the deans list last fall when my overall GPA was 3.78.
Also i have seen people on here talking about getting in with too many C's or W's. I have got a C in stat and eco and a W in ochem.

So what do you guys think are my chances of getting in so far?

Hey Congrats!
I am gone from home for a ski weekend, so can't check my mail... how ironic, I came skiing to get my mind off of Pharmacy school, and the letters have arrived- GGGGRRRRRRRR.

The interviews are very personalized. They are open file, so expect them to ask questions about your specific work, school and volunteer experience.

The interview is fairly laid-back and everyone is very friendly, just be prepared to discuss any aspect of your application!

A huge congratulations to you! It was my second interview and acceptance, but my first choice by a long shot. I will definitely be seeing you there in the fall.

Congratulations to you both!! 👍

Who knows exactly what they are looking for, but if you get a good PCAT score (mid 80s or higher) then I imagine you will get an interview.
Best of luck- let us know how you do!

I just wanted to give my belated CONGRATULATIONS to Goldennemesis and Alby. Way to go! Maybe I will be seeing you all soon!
👍 :hardy:👍:hardy::luck::luck::luck:

Haven't heard anything yet. I'm starting to get a lottle nervous here. Didn't they say 2 weeks??

Yes, they did say two weeks... maybe you should call and ask.

Best of luck!!!!!!

Just because you haven't heard, doesn't mean when you do it will be bad news. As far as I understand it, they send out acceptances for out of state all the way through May.

But by all means call if you want to, you might find something out!

I submitted my application in November but still have not heard a peep from NM. I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

honestly they probably won't tell you anything one way or another and it may just annoy them. I probably wouldn't bother them just yet.

i took the PCAT for the first time and here are my Jan 08 scores..got them today

Reading 9
Verbal 40
Biology 55
Quantitative 83
Chemistry 69
Composite 47

I am so disappointed with my scores...guess i can forget about getting in to UNM this year🙁

I just spoke to Krystal Weaver, she said that they have only accepted a handful of students so far. They will continue reviewing apps through may so I you haven't heard anything, your still in the running and no news is good news. She said last year they filled over 60 of the 80some seats in the last week of may. I guess we all misunderstood the 2 week thing.

I guess the two week thing was just for the "handfull"... how many students can you fit in one hand??

Best of luck- I hope you get in... I know someone who got in out of state in July last year- so don't lose hope!

You are correct. They told us May for the in-state applicants. They said two weeks for some of the lucky out-of-staters.

Did any in-state receive acceptance yet? I went to ED but was differentiated. Does it mean pre-rejection? If not, what is the chance? Worrying...🙁

Except for people who are accepted ED, no instate students find out till the end of May. So dont sweat it too much. 🙂 They'll look over your app again, if they haven't already.
