Looking for some good new music. One band that I found is Silversun Pickup. Pretty good. Check out their album if you haven't, I like the whole thing but a couple songs that will give you a good idea of them are, Lazy Eye and Rusted Wheel.

What's your new tunes?

Gojira - The Way of All Flesh

(if we're talking heavy stuff)

and there's always Opeth if you like some classical guitar mixed in with your black metal - an acquired taste but man it grows on you...

and because i'm not just an angst-ridden adolescent headbanger, some pop/indie-hop from K-Os, representing Toronto...

I highly recommend Airborne Toxic Event, their single is "Sometime Around Midnight." Ridiculously good band out of L.A. if you need to hear anything about them just know that they are the cd currently being listened to by U2 as they tour the country/world. Just great music with incredible instrumentation and lyrics...

Thanks everyone I'll get started on some of these.

Sethco, Rise Against is one of my recent finds that kill it.👍

Darkmansaad, I have been hearing Airborn Toxic Event and I dig them too.

I partly started this thread b/c I need some music that my wife will enjoy while we are together since she is getting tired of TOOL.

BTW, anyone like swamppop music? Check out the Bluerunners.

Oh, and the reason U2 listens to these guys is that they can't make good music any longer so they are listening to it instead.

haha i wholeheartedly agree, their last cd was a pile of dog doo.....i also recommend the new franz ferdinand; you sound a little older so you may not dig it but the cd really gets ya in the mood to have some drinks, go out, and possibly paint the town red

I've been playing a lot of Avenged Sevenfold lately. Definitely not easy listening, but good stuff if you like the genre.

If you like Avenged Sevenfold, how about these guys...

What!?!? Getting tired of Tool? Blasphemy!!!

I guess you can break out A Perfect Circle to appease her

I ran across airborne toxic event recently, good stuff.

Around that time I also found The Broken West and Gaslight Anthem. Check them out.

A great place I have found to check out new music is the Music Matters Podcast from KEXP. Kexp is a funky radio station from Seattle. They're technically a public radio station, they play tons of new stuff. Some of it can be a bit funk at times, but their weekday djs play a lot of good new stuff, and they all take turns doing these podcasts.

Seventh Void has a couple of guys from Type O Negative and it rocks.

My new favorite

Silversun pickups are great. they are actually on their third album (I think). The last one is a little harder. Rusted wheel rocks- cool crescendo type tune. If you haven't looked into Chevelle. Try them out. A lot of their songs are tool like. I think you would dig it if you gave them a chance. Check out the song: "Get some" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdrlgulpCGM

Yeah, Jet said the same thing about Chevelle being Tool-like about a year or so ago on one of my other music threads.

i third silversun pickups. "well thought out twinkles" is an awesome song. they have a slight sonic youth-ish vibe to me.

i have chevelle's first album and i wasn't such a big fan. Not terrible, but comparing them to Tool?! really?

Doesn't sound like Tool to me, even the voice. Tool is a bit more complex IMHO.

Sounds a little like the Deftones though.

But, of course, living in Texas....................

Nobody will rock harder.

Remember everyone, we are comparing bands to TOOL, now. Not comparing Tool to other bands. There is only one TOOL. They are like GOS2 said, complex. Listening to Chevelle, I can hear the resemblance but there is something missing. Listen to this video. At about 4 minutes they just leave other bands behind. Their depth at every instrument is unmatched,IMHO.

WELL SAID, MIKEY.

A resemblance.

Chevelle is limited by simplistic riffs....you can tell the guitarists aren't as skilled as TOOL....nor the drummer....

I guess, though, with that simplicity and TOOL-like-sound..kinda grew on me.

And the Deftones can crush it. I listen to them frequently while snowboarding. Great rhythm for ripping.

They definitely have a strong sound. Love em.

Jet, can you imagine a day on the mountain "nukin" snow so hard your lines are covered b/4 you can get back to the top of the mountain. You and a buddy ripping the **** up and not saying a thing to each other all day except on the lift. And this song blaring in your helmet. F8ckin awesome.

You guys should check out Dredg. They have some of that Tool-like complexity you're looking for. I saw them back in college, and I still find myself telling people about that show to this day.

Also, Kings of Leon have gotten pretty big of late, but they still rock pretty hard. "Sex on Fire" is one of my favorite songs right now.

Can only imagine, my friend, how awesome that is.😍

Can't forget At the Drive In. Check out their song "One Armed Scissor". They split up a few years ago but half the members went on to form The Mars Volta, and the other half formed Sparta (both of which rock pretty hard).

I'm gonna list a few of my 2008-and-later selections in my iTunes currently:

Black Keys - Attack and Release. These guys have been good for a while.
Fallout Boy - Folie a Deux. Poppy and stupid but fun as hell.
Girltalk - Feed the Animals. Better, not sure how that was possible, than the 1st Girltalk album.
Glasvegas - S/T. Scot rock. "Go Square Go" is my favorite song right now.
Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath. After the misstep with Amputechture, they found it again. Amazing.
Mogwai - The Hawk is Howling.
Ratatat - LP3. "Instrumental" electropop.
Rise Against - Appeal to Reason. People already mentioned this, and for good reason, it effing rocks.

And the Deftones can crush it. I listen to them frequently while snowboarding. Great rhythm for ripping.

Around the Fur and WHite Pony?
