This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i did write a new personal statement, but i used most of the ideas from my first ps. i made my second one very personal, and had many people look it over and give suggestions. i wrote, revised, rewrote, revised.... over the course of a couple months until it said exactly what i was trying to get across. i would not suggest using the exact same one for reapplying- maybe it just needs to be tweaked a little to better address your life. hope this helps, good luck!

I wrote a new personal statement and used some of the same ideas from the first one. I also took more time to edit it.

So lets say I had some traveling experience, and experience managing a retail sporting goods shop. But they dont directly relate to healthcare or pharmacy. Would it be wise to still talk about some of the skills n stuff you learned that may help you as a pharmacist?....
Example: managing a retail store helps give an insiders view of business, and helps with communication skills, responsibility, etc. And travel experiences allows you to become more open minded, empathetic, culturally aware etc.

Would it be cool to just write a paragraph about each of these and then relate it in some way...or just stick to one main personal experience

Is it ok to write about stuff thats not so directly related to pharmacy like the above, in a personal statement?
Cuz from what Ive seen people write about how they volunteered in Uganda hospitals and saved a 8 year old orphans *tear

I improved any area that didn't read correctly (ie: sound right).

It's nice to have had a one year break from looking at my personal statement, made my own editting a little less bias. =)

Added a few updates to what I did (not too much of a difference).

Other than that, nada. I'm lazy. And I spent about five months writing my first one. So, I figured that... nah forget that thought, I was just lazy. 😀

Hey.

for those who REAPPLIED, did you guys have to write a NEW PS?

if not, did you still get an interview if you used the same old one?

thanks!

If you just leave it the same and apply to the same school they'd most likely think you're lazy and just reject it, but hey i might be wrong. 👍

Definitely write about those indirectly-related experiences. I have no pharmacy experience, no healthcare experience, not even any volunteer experiences, so I wrote about work and travel and the places I've lived. I related each one back and explained how it would help me as a pharmacist. It was a successful strategy--I was accepted to several schools.

Don't write another mushy essay about how you single-handedly saved Ugandan village XYZ from Ebola, the admission committees read enough of those tales.

I just edited my old one as the question was the same. But, I did make sure to add in things I had done over the past year so that the adcom would see that I had taken the time to improve myself.

My personal statement is about who I am, and I haven't changed in a year, my reasons for pharmacy haven't changed in a year, but some of my experiences have. So this is my plan also. Plus submitting it as soon as summer grades are posted.
