New required Pre-Med classes

I am a High School senior. Since the MCAT is changing in 2015 to include new sections (psych etc), when will this change be reflected in a change in the pre-med curriculium? What other things does one need to look out for that will be a side effect of the changing mcat test?

That would be a good question to ask the college that you're going to attend. Its not a huge secret that the test is changing, so I'm positive that all colleges are changing their curriculum for the incoming class. I'm sure that by the time you take the MCAT you will have taken all of the classes that you need.

Here's the status quo for pre-reqs:
- Chem I&II (w/labs)
- Orgo I&II (w/labs)
- Physics I&II (w/labs)
- Bio I&II (w/labs)
- Calc I & either Calc II or Stats (take calc II to be on the safe side, though I recommend taking both)
- 2 writing courses (1 of which can be a science course that is writing-heavy)
- 2 social science courses
- 2 humanities courses

Here are a couple courses that are currently recommended by many med schools, though I suspect they'll be a requirement by the time you're ready to apply:
- Biochem (at least a survey course)
- Genetics

Finally, here are a few courses that I personally recommend so they're not completely foreign to you when you hit med school:
- Anatomy and/or histology
- Physiology
- Immunology

The new prereqs will most likely be integrated into your general education curriculum/core classes/whatever your school calls them. I believe that the new classes are psych and sociology, which definitely count for some of your humanities requirements. I wouldn't worry about trying to fit them in. 1/3 of your college curriculum is supposed to be electives anyways 😀
