After doing some research on the revised GRE, I heard some people discuss how some schools will prefer the current GRE over the revised version. Anyone hear if there is truth in this?

Changes are effective August 1, and I am now in a dilemma. I can study and take a course for the test immediately, which would have me taking the current version, or not rush and take the new version sometime within the next two years. My fear is that if I spend the money on the course and study for the current version then have to take it again, I will have to take the new format and basically just wasted my time/money for all the current verison prep I did.

Anybody else find themselves in a similiar situation or have some advice in regards to taking the test now and study the old format, or just begin my prep for the new version?

Please take a look at this website. I've posted it multiple times on other threads.

Also, keep in mind that by the time you apply to PT school (in two years I'm assuming), the new test will most likely be preferred. However, the GRE scores last for a few years. It's totally up to you when you want to take it. If you have 2 years to take it, I would just suggest that you don't freak about it as you'll have to take it soon. I would just take the new GRE at a later date. For one, it'll give much more time to study.

Cheers

Thank You! I never saw this link but it is helpful. Some of come schools on interest prefer the current version, but like you said I will not be applying for another two years. It does state for those planning to apply this year, but do you think it will matter for those who do not, like myself for example? I would assume in two years the revised version would be preferred for all schools.

This should be a non-issue in future years. The likely reason some schools require or prefer the current version this upcoming year is because the new version GRE results for the months of August and later will not be sent out until at least November, which is later than some schools' existing application deadlines. This delay won't exist in the future, and I can't see any school preferring an exam in future years that can't be taken any longer. I'd wait for the new one if I were in your situation.

I am applying for 2012 entry. Took GRE this month and will take the revised in AUG. What the heck, curious. Right the Aug scores won't be sent til mid Nov. The schools at which I am applying are requiring the old version. The scoring is different as well on the revised and many schools don't have it sorted out for min. accepted etc. For early admissions for 2012 entry (apps due sept. and oct) we need to take the current version before July 31. FYI if you take the revision in aug / sept there is a 50% fee refunded. So I don't feel like I am really wasting too much money.
