It seems that all the new schools: UTAH, MISSOURI, and UNE have small class sizes, and are reserving seats for in state candidates. Do you guys think this is true, or do you think out of state people have a chance?

Among all three, only about 100 seats are available total. Some suggest that because they're new they will be more OOS friendly. I tend to think MOSDOH and UNE will go with regional preference. UofU I would think will stick to in-state. I haven't even seen an OOS tuition. They've basically had a D1 class for years. So it'll be competitive.

My guess of OOS-friendly:
UNE>MOS>UofU

I don't think any of the new schools will be oos friendly

Yep only around 100 seats between those new schools and they won't be OOS friendly. It makes me wonder why some people like to bitch about the "massive influx" of dentists and how it'll lead to oversaturation. I guess it's a discussion for another time

UNE will be OOS friendly but only to Northern New Englanders (NH, VT). The schools is a public health initiative to address shortages in Maine.

Yeah. I know all about it. Maybe OOS friendly is too broad of a term. Nothing like a new mega private school with doors wide open. Being where I'm from I wouldn't touch any of them. You've got a state school and two schools addressing regional needs with one stating state preference and another regional preference (even the school names reflect that). So definitely not friendly to all out of state.

I think Utah and Missouri will have no problem filling their class, but for UNE, how many new englanders can really be applying. And let's assume lots of in-state / "in region" people do apply to those schools and others, you have to assume they'll want to attend elsewhere (the next closest schools like BU or Tufts...) leaving UNE with no choice but to interview / accept OOS people.

I think the best chance you have at the new schools is right as they open before their reputation is established.

Thanks for the feedback! I decided I wont be applying to any of the new schools. I'm hearing that UNE is the school that requires a letter of rec from community service rep?

At least the new schools will potentially ward away competition from other schools you might be interested in.

Thanks awesome teeth, well that crosses off the last new school I was considering. Park-life, I was thinking the same way you were, and thus I am still very happy for their opening! More seats is always a plus!
