Well its the new semester and I have returned to campus. Although I just wanted to know if there is anything a freshman can do to make himself a competitive application for future pharmacy admissions? I am going to start volunteering and I am apart of the Pharmacy club. Is there anything anyone else on SDM besides academics to help their overall profile?

Start going to office hours to build relationships that could lead to good LORs, research oportunities, etc...

Find some common interest that you can discuss with your professor, and you'll feel more comfortable talking to your professor about any research topics, class material, or your career goals.

I once let one of my bio professors know that I like to play chess, and he sent me an email asking me if I wanted to play. I don't think it can get much more personal than that

After that, whenever I saw him at club meetings and at campus events, we always said 'hi' and talked. I think letting that professor know what I was interested in, based on the clubs I joined, was probably a good thing, since that would make me stand out from the large group of bio students at school.

Do you have any interests besides anything science-related? Pharmacy schools like a well-rounded application, and lucky for you because you're a freshman, you can start something now and be involved for a few years before you start applying (shows dedication).

Get involved in a school charity, join an organization that does a lot of things, tutor, basically just take up something new and become really involved! You're going to have to talk about things other than science during interviews.
