I am an anesthesiolgist refugee .I will be in USA specifically Houston ,Tx in about 5 months .I will apply for USMLE and I hope I can apply for anesthesia residency in 1-2 years .I heard from many people that I have to work at least 75-80 hours a week .I got used to medical work ,but that looks too much .That is for PGY-1 as I heard .I just want to know so I dont regret it later .

It is actually 35 hours/week. Everyone who does it gets a trophy every month so that they feel good about themselves. It won't be bad.

Yes you can expect to work those hours as an intern. Also expect to work a lot during the clinical anesthesia years. Some rotations will be around 80 hours per week. I average 60-65 right now, just finished CA1 year. I expect my hours will go up CA2 year. I hope you realize you are going to work long and hard in residency, period. As has been echo'ed repeatedly on this forum, anesthesiology is not a lifestyle specialty. What is an anesthesia refugee anyway?

I am a refugee outside USA . United nations will send me to USA in about 5 months .I lost my job as anesthesiologist due to war .I have family to take care of .I am 35 years now .I like my job ,but I had to support my family beside study .I can handle 60-65 hours weekly ,but 80 is to much for me .I am not complaining .I just want to know so I can look for another options .It looks like double full time job with a salary of a normal full time job .Sorry I just need advice, either to go for it (as I like my job a lot ) or to look for other options .
Thanks for the reply

The upside of doing the residency again is that your income will go from $45,000 to around $400,000. I think that's worth 4 years of 60-80 hour work weeks. Perhaps you disagree. You could always drive cab or something. Research tech jobs are plentiful, they pay around $28-50,000.
Something tells me that you'll find a way to repeat that residency.
