Hi everyone,

I need a lot of advice. Thanks in advance!
I’ve read through a lot of the forums and got a lot great ideas and advice.

Info) I’ve been in Finance for the past 5 years because it was a "stable" thing to do, but Exercise Science is my true passion. I’m an avid athlete & I love studying new exercise techniques, nutrition, and reading new research studies. I have no prior clinical or research or lab experience being that I’ve been in Finance & Economics.

I really want to head toward a Doctorate program, where I can teach & do research on exercise, fitness & nutrition. I know there are specific areas in Kinesiology, they all sound so great, how do I narrow it down? (human physical activity, investigating the mechanical, neurological, biochemical, physiological and behavioral components of human movement etc)

1) I’m deciding on what school to go to, Cal state vs. Private:
Should I go to a Cal State (looking Cal State Long Beach) Masters in Kinesiology, It’s close to home and I can still work while going to school, but I’m worried that I won’t be as competitive to get into a PhD program.

OR : Should I instead aim for a more competitive Masters program? (looking at Umass) But then I would have to leave California, my family, my job, etc. which I’m willing to, if it’s the correct path I should aim for.

2) What should I prep before applying to the masters program? Research experience, etc? If so where do you find opportunities?

3) Any additional paths & steps should I take to head toward the PhD direction?

Thanks so much,

Ly
