So I see a lot of pharmacy schools require anat/phys 1 and 2. I'm going to be getting my B.S. in bio this spring and will have some post-bacc classes to take to fulfill my pre-reqs for some of these pharm schools. Question is, my undergrad only offered anat and phys through the school of nursing, and I feel like a lot of schools did that. So how did you all take anat and phys during your time in undergrad? Did you all have to get special permission to take them from the nursing school 😵, I feel like this makes no sense because there are so many pre-pharm students. I go to University of Pittsburgh, and for college of A&S we have a class called human phys... but I don't think it's the same thing.

That's weird. I've only looked at/attended a handful of undergrad institutions, but every single one had a basic A&P I and II sequence available. I would contact the schools directly and ask, maybe you're missing something?

My school is the same way. We only had a physiology class, so I am going to take anatomy at a Penn State campus during the summer because I live close to one. One option is to ask the school if you can register for the classes anyway. I had one friend who talked to the nursing school and they let her. I would have done it, but it would have cost me an extra $4500.

Yeah I wasn't sure about pharmacy till the end of last semester. The biological sciences major does not require A&P. I think it's because Pitt's own pharm school pre-reqs are so little (doesn't require A&P) that it just doesn't offer it for general sciences majors in the college of arts and sciences. Very annoying.

My school focuses on premeds and there are only two of us this year applying for pharmacy (that I know). The bio students have been pushing the administration for an anatomy class with no avail.

REALLY?!?! 2?? wow. I remember when I was a freshman and during recitation they asked us what our major was, like half the class was pre-pharm. I was planning on taking A&P while i work next year as a research tech at a university by using my employee tuition remission, but they don't even offer it in the curriculum I'm allowed to choose from... I'll have to email them if I get the same tuition benefits trying to take it from the nursing school.. pathetic

I would do it through a community college because it is much cheaper. However, there are some pharmacy schools that require upper division A&P from a university so it would be in your best interest to find out.

Yeah I've thought about taking it on Saturdays at the local CC, but I'm going to try my best to take it at an accredited/prestigious university. A lot of the pharm school I'm checking out doesn't seem to be taking pre-req courses from CC's

EDIT:

ok so I looked up my local CC and they offer anatomy I and II with lab for 2 semesters and will cost about $800 total... Would this really look bad if they are the only classes I'm taking from a CC due to time conflicts? I'll be working full time and the classes are lecture 2x a week and lab once a week.

I always hear that pre-reqs need to be taken at a 4-yr uni, but I was fine taking a few pre-reqs at a local CC.

My school only offered it to nursing students during fall and spring.

I recommend taking it over the summer. A&P 1 and 2, back to back.

I wish... but I'm starting work in May and it'll be full time; the summer course schedule isn't yet available for the university I'm working in, so I'll have to hope for some reason they offer it at night or on saturdays...

It's annoying since if A&P wasn't a full year commitment, I could end work a semester early and take A&P while study for my PCATs, but this would mean I have to take a whole year off. I don't really see another option other than CC, or if they let me take it through nursing, I'll be asking them when school resumes from winter break.

I agree but I am skeptical about online courses, especially because some schools stipulate that online courses will not receive credit (whereas CC classes are pretty much always accepted).

I agree, unless the online course is in like... nonscience courses, I don't see how I can take a course like A&P with lab.. in an online course lol
