Hello All,

So i'm a pre-pharm student already accepted into a top pharm school. However, (I know this is late) after researching all aspects of my future career, i'm starting to realize it's not for me. However, I was always had an interest in PT, but foolishly I abandoned it in search of a job that pays more. Now I've experienced life more i want to do something fulfilling and that will make me happy.

I am an URM (not sure if this matters with PT) with a 3.14 s/cum GPA, extensive community volunteering, and great test taking skills (GRE shouldn't be a problem). I realize my GPA is a bit low but I feel other areas of my application strengthen this.

What are some things i should do to strengthen my application for PT schools? I know i need to have PT related shadowing/volunteering, but what types and how long should i look to volunteer? Is there anything special i should look to add to my application that is exclusive to PT schools? Lastly, would I be able to do this by the time applications for next cycle open?

The volunteering should be in different locations maybe like 3 or 4, have 40 or more hours under your belts typically 300 and above to be in good standing, add to your application you credentials, if you have most or will be done by the time you start pt school then your good, and lastly, I would def add why you left PharmD for PT. Good luck!

I see you live in florida! Me too. Do you think I'm competitive for UF PT school? It's definitely my top choice since my undergrad degree is there.

Here are UF's stats:
  • What is the average GPA for the entering class?
The average GPA scores vary by class. Generally, the average GPA is about a 3.8 for upper division course work and a 3.65 for prerequisite course work. Please remember that there are other factors that we consider in determining admissions, such as variety of and number of hours of observation, strong references and a well-thought out statement of purpose, GRE scores, and activities (i.e. service, work, leadership, etc). The minimum GPA considered for admission to our program is 3.0 overall for all credits after the semester you attained 60 credit hours and a 3.0 in the average of all prerequisite courses.

  • What is the average GRE for the entering class?
Our average admitted GRE scores vary by class, but generally run about 155 for the verbal section, 154 for the quantitative section, and between a 4.0 and 4.5 for the writing section. The GRE is only one factor among many. A strong GPA, variety of and number of hours of observation, strong references and a well-thought out statement of purpose, along with the GRE scores, are all equally important to the admissions decision.

Anything is possible, your gpa might be a little low, you are battling with a high number of applicants and that might make you on the wait list. However, if you do well on the gre and everything else you have a chance. Don't let any one discourage you. I am in the same boat but with the gre. Low gre and high gpa including the prereqs. Let hope for the best! We can do it!I am applying to Nova Hybrid number 1 choice!
