Hello everyone out there
Had a temporary bout of insomnia and stumbled upon this forum, thought I would join and introduce my self. I am a freshman at Oklahoma State pursuing a premed degree in mechanical engineering, although that may change to biomedical engineering. I recently decided that medicine is the place for me. I had been wavering for sometime in between engineering or medicine, but ended up in medicine, and I have been very happy with the choice since.

Welcome. These forums are a great place for information. Stick around, remember to use the search engine before creating a new thread, and don't be afraid to ask about anything concerning all this medical jazz!

Nice to see another cowboy around here :hello:
I'm sort of a sophomore/junior pre-med/zoology/spanish student at OSU.
Mechanical engineering is going to be rough to say the least. good luck 👍

Eh, its not that bad. I graduated about a year ago with my M.E. degree. Loved the classes but the work was just awfully boring. I made the decision to go med late too... Like after an internship my junior year and I only had two semesters left. So its definitely doable. Good luck to you!!

Welcome babyimreal! Another thing to add to JaggerPlate's suggestions is that take everything you read here w/a GRAIN OF SALT. You are going find a lot of posts that sound condescending or just plain ignorant. Just think through what is important to you when you come across those posts and learn the art of ignoring them 😀

yea as of the last couple of days I have been tossing around the idea of changing my major from ME to some sort of Bio or BioChem. At first I was really excited about engineering, but the more I go along the more pressure I seem to be feeling. I think its mostly in my head, but my advisers are really stressing strong GPA and I worry about what Engineering might do to it. Plus it feels really monotonous right now. The last couple of months I have been realizing that medicine is what I really want to do, and I don't want to endanger that.

If you're talking about the pre-med advisor... don't take her too seriously. She's not particularly competent.
If ME is really what you're interested in, go for it. But definitely consider that it's a lot of work if it's not something you're interested in pursuing a career in.
majors like biological science, physiology, and zoology line up really well with pre-med requirements, but if those subjects don't sincerely interest you then you might have a really lousy time.
feel free to PM me with any questions specific to OSU, i'd be happy to help you out.
