Im currently a sophmore student at VCU and here recently they have changed their grading scale removing all +'s and -'s. Which means no more 3.5's or 2.5's etc. If you get a B no matter how high or low it is still a 3.0. I am worried about whether or not Grad schools will be aware of this when comparing me to other students from different schools. Thanks for the help in advance!

Dental schools do their own GPA calculations which include +/- anyways, how your undergrad university decides how they use +/-'s doesn't matter.

Actually I don't think this statement is true. If vcu is only giving out letter grades with no +/- there will only be letters in the transcript so when the aadsas calculates op's GPA, GPA with or without +/- will be the same.

On the bright side you will still get an A for a grade which might have been an A-!

My undergrad did this as well! It benefited me in that I only needed a 90 for a 4.0 but hurt me in that the B's I got were a 3.0, even when my grade was an 89. I got one C (78 in the class), and the 2.0 was rough on my relatively high gpa..I retook and got an A, but AADSAS still averages this to a 3.0. Also, I don't know if d-schools take this grading system into account since it's not common.

Also, went to a quarter system undergrad so none of my pre-reqs match up..some schools require Micro 3 or 4 credits for semesters and 5 or 6 for quarters, but my school only offers a 4 credit micro. Had a million issues with this stuff.

Goodluck! Aim for that 90!

You mean theres only 4.0's, 3.0's, 2.0's and 1.0's now at your school....?

Yes VCU only does 4.0, 3.0, 2.0... I guess the real question would be then if graduate schools look into this being a factor while reviewing your app? Such as do they know ahead of time the grading scale of the schools which students are coming out of? I know for undergrad school's were aware of high schools who had higher grading scales such as my school in Northern VA where a 94% was an "A".

Thats really annoying, considering you will probably get more B+'s compared to A-'s, so you will probably end up with a lower gpa. Then again, it could also help if you end up with more A-'s. I still probably wouldn't like it. With that said, I'm sure the dental schools that get a lot of VCU applicants (the d-schools around vcu), will know about it and therefore look at it accordingly.

I doubt it will change anything in regarding to dental school. Will d-schools be aware of this ? maybe. Will d-schools care about it? I doubt it.
That grading sucks but if you think about it, you only need to get 90% to get an A. I need to get 93% to 95% in each class to receive an A.

Why assume this?

Agree with everything LaughingGas said. 👍👍👍

I think this could be a big advantage for you. You will only need to get a 90% to get an A, whereas the rest of us need a 93-95% depending on the class and professor. The difference between the amount of work necessary to get a 90% vs 93-95% is quite substantial in some classes. Count your blessings.

Plenty of other schools don't have +/-.

For whatever it's worth, on AADSAS my non +/- GPA was one point higher than my +/- GPA.
