New updates from Fa 2016
Started by gk12321
the hardcopy or kindle? I am not too keen to wait till Christmas but Kindle versions suck tbh.I would love this. I own the 2015 version and i have pre-ordered the 2016 one, but it will be MUCH easier to study knowing what has been changed

Good Luck.Time to start a thread to post all new stuffs added in the 2016 vs the 2015 one!!
The FMGs actually did it last year on Facebook, highlighting all newly added stuffs in the pdf. It was easier since each one did a chapter. There will surely be something like that coming up by March.Good Luck.
could someone post the kindle link in amazon. Wondering if its worth buying it.
Edit: my bad. Someone had posted it before.

Does anyone know when it will be internationally released? I'm assuming a week after Christmas, if the release date in the US is what you say it is..

It has actually already started.. I saw a post on this Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/UsmleSteps
Since there are a lot more people on that FB group (50K or something) its easier t do this. I already finished my step so I wont really be chipping in this time.. However I was one of those who helped make the list last year.

Where did you see this within the FB group? I just scrolled back through December and wasn't able to find anything on a group compiling the changes.

I will have to look at it again and will try to find a link..Where did you see this within the FB group? I just scrolled back through December and wasn't able to find anything on a group compiling the changes.
There is no group compiling the changes.. there was a post by someone suggesting that a team should be formed with everyone talking up one chapter and making the list. I dont recollect exactly but will try and fins it and let u know.. i am kinda more on the step 2 forums now..since i am done with this step..

There is the new post set up for the cause. Btw FA just pulled out their kindle version. It was very poorly done. I hope we get a print friendly version for kindle.

I second this.. FA's kindle versions have always been incredibly sh*tty.. for a book that probably sells around 50K physical books per year..they should have made a better kindle version... I remember wasting money last year on it..
I preordered it in November on Amazon with Prime and will be getting it next Wednesday (Dec 23rd) according to the shipping estimate.
The Kindle version has been updated/fixed on Amazon, but it's hard to find! You have to search for the ASIN: B019IX6GB6
anyone bought it?
Yup, received my print copy today. Lots of changes overall in every section including biochem/micro/immuno. There are newer and improved pictures/diagrams throughout the organ systems. In behavioral science, they added Public health as new a topic in about three pages. The topics for this section ares: disease prevention, medicare vs. medicaid, common causes of death by age, hospitalized conditions with frequent readmissions, safety culture, human factor design, pdsa cycle, quality measurements, swiss cheese model, types of medical errors, and medical error analysis. Also, this newer edition also came with a two months free trail of FA Flash Facts.
Anyone have any idea when the PDF may be available? I don't plan to bother with the updates in the organ systems, but I would like to see the new Public Health section.

Is the new information in areas like pathology/micro/immuno new topics, or new/different information inside topics that are already discussed in FA 2015?
Also, how different is pharmacology? Is it just new drugs, or a lot of new info on the drugs already in 2015?

I have seen a couple of new drugs, a lot of new info for behavioural sciences. I have only gone through quickly though.I will try to share some more info in this thread this week as I study it deeper.
Just went through the cardiovascular and behavioral sciences sections to compare 2015 and 2016 editions and to see if any changes were made. They are basically the same. Even the Behavioral Sciences section is 100% the same except they added the new Public Health section, and they added one new ethical situation to the Ethics section. The only true difference is the updated diagrams. The changes in text were just reformatting -- nothing to go crazy about. I imagine any updates that 2015 might be missing are covered in QBanks.
Microbiology has some new picture additions. Please take what I say with a grain of salt and see for yourself whether it would be best for you to make the 2015 to 2016 switch. I sit for the boards in March and begin studying in 5 days, so I don't think I will be making the change.

It's definitely not hard to pick out the differences. There really aren't that that many in each section. I would say each path section has an extra drug added (like ranolazine etc).
Side note: Does anyone know who actually makes these changes? Like I know it's peer edited (since I was sent that email to edit them), but do people that have already taken Step 1 add stuff ? I am wondering how if it's just year 2 people or ppl that haven't taken it, how they know what is high yield?

New drugs cetuximab, Readded megalinitidies, mycophenalate(it was in 2014,) ranolazine. eculazonab (mind my spellling). ton of pictures for each path section got added. Some new path stuff (added vunerable child syndrome, MDMA, 2 renal embroyo path syndromes. Added some tidbits of information which is inter-sped (neomycin for hepatic encephalopathy). These are all just a few of stuff I saw over looking through it really quickly. Overall its a much cleaner version (the diagrams are way more detailed and nice) and the there are a ton of histo pics. With the free 2 month flash facts code it was worth the upgrade.

There are definitely some changes in FA 2016, but they are quite minimal. I have compared every section pretty thoroughly, except for Reproductive. There are no more than 10 new disease additions (e.g. Nelson syndrome, intestinal atresia specifications, hemolytic uremic syndrome was added to the platelet disorders section in Hematology, ABO HDN, Hyperaldosteronism, scabies, etc.). There is also a new Respiratory Embryology section, there is a clean and updated version of acute MI complications, and there are new drugs and diagrams in the Pharmacology sections.Check the forums on facebook, they have started working on the differences between 2015 and 2016 and a pdf is up there.
I personally find the newly-added diagrams throughout the new edition to be usefully updated and worth taking a look at, but if you already knew the information as it was presented in FA 2015 then what you will come across in the new diagrams in FA 2016 are merely a more organized way of seeing what you already know.
Overall, the changes were enough for me to transfer the missing information, the new diseases, and some of the updated diagrams into my previously-annotated FA 2015 (I annotate electronically). Having said that, I don't think it would make a true difference for anyone who decides to stick with the 2015 edition for an early 2016 exam, as long as they are covering the missing information in UWorld or another resource. It is also worth noting that, contrary to what I keep seeing on numerous message boards, there are very few new histopathology image additions; in fact, some of the FA 2015 images were shrunken in size, or were even completely removed. In most cases, I actually preferred the FA 2015 images and kept a lot of them instead of switching them with the new ones from FA 2016. Hope this helps.

Would you please mind sharing a link to the pdf in private? (Not here due to copyright issues). Taking the exam in few days and I just wanna take a look at those changes quickly. I recommend purchasing the Kindle version on Amazon, and then returning it when you are done skimming through it. Or you can just keep it since, you know, the authors have created an invaluable book for you to succeed in medical school for an incredibly affordable price (I am not even going to use the Kindle version but I still don't intend on returning it for the reasons I just mentioned).Would you please mind sharing a link to the pdf in private? Erm, has anyone come across a list of FA 2016 changes yet? (other than the pdf in the FA website)

I dont think anyone shared it. There was the pdf from the firstaid website uploaded once, but that doesnt have everything at all. Just a few chapters.
that is the same sample file uploaded in the first aid website . not complete at all.
hopefully a list of changes might be out soon.
