Just wondering if anyone had some resolutions they would like to share. 🙂

For myself, I suppose I would resolve to stop and remind myself more often that I'm pretty happy with my life as it is right now, with or without an acceptance letter. Aside from that, I still have a nice place to live, some happy furry kids, and a husband that is way too awesome for words. These are the things that I should stop and think about more!

So, what resolutions do you guys have? More traditional resolutions are also welcome - I'm not in shape either, lol.

My husband and I are going to complete a sprint triathalon this year!

(which is secretely a cover up for the ACTUAL goal which is to get in shape!)

Like most people, I want to get in shape! I am getting hitched in July, and have been putting off getting a dress for this reason (why did I think it was a good idea to apply to vet school while planning a wedding? :bang:)

I also want to pay more attention to my poor doggie. She is exercise deprived due to my busy schedule. Plus, longer walks means more exercise for me!

Finally, I want to appreciate the free time I have now and enjoy the company of all the friends I will leave behind when I go off to vet school next year. 2011 will definitely be the craziest year of my life and I want to be sure I enjoy it to the fullest!

I already signed up for a triathlon in early August and I plan on signing up for the Broad Street Run once registration opens. I did a tri a few years ago and the BSR last year and sorta trained a lot at the last minute for both. Procrastination is my specialty!
This year I hope to make a schedule and train a bit more gradually instead of feeling like I'm gonna die by trying to do 4 mile runs and 1/2 mile swims at the last minute.

I also really want to volunteer tutor math and science in Phila public schools. There are several programs which match people up with students in West Phila. Beginning of Jan I'm going to start contacting places. I used to help my younger brother with his homework and study for tests (he's 6 yrs younger than me) and according to him I was good at it!

Work out at least 3x a week - no excuses! Unless I'm on my deathbed or it's exam period. Getting a gym membership for next semester so hopefully that will motivate me since I'll have to shell out some money for that and I'm a broke college student. I have until March to tone up for the charity fashion show I'm modeling in, eek.

I also want to get a job in the summer..I've spent so many summers volunteering but I really could use the money, even if it means I won't be able to volunteer as much.

1) Spend more time at the gym... last semester totally killed Operation Buffness.
2) Improve my 5k time to something bordering on respectable.
3) Stop panicking about the whole acceptance/rejection thing... I will not die if I don't get in this time around. Or if I have to leave the country. No matter how much it might feel that way at times. 😉

Same as everyone else... get in shape, exercise more, eat healthier, blah, blah, blah.

Oh and my other resolution... GET INTO VET SCHOOL!!! (ok, so I can't control this one as much, but I am determined it is going to happen this year. 🙂.... I hope).

My resolutions:

1) Better manage my finances. It's funny how I told myself I'd be saving money when I moved out of my house.... but.... well... didn't happen.
2) Work out at least 3 times a week
3) Graduate. Starting vet school this fall is contingent on me getting my Masters. I have to snap out of this funk that I don't want to work on my Masters.... *sigh*
4) Relax and take time for myself
5) Complete a 150 mile bike ride with my SO this summer

I don't know if I have any...

Hmm...

Do better in school!
Stop getting stressed out over jobs and finances
Be a better daughter/friend/girlfriend

1. (After the snow melts and the road clears) Run! Continue my 4.5mi loop around Arthur's Seat and Crags. Or explore my way through Duddingston. Or hike Arthur's Seat when it's not covered in snow.

2. Visit the free museums in the city.

3. Bake girl scout cookies and more cookies in general.

4. Have a better attitude in bad situations and attempt to make the best of every situation. My flight home from the UK got cancelled due to the snow, and I couldn't go home at all since I couldn't rebook my flight. That put me in a pretty bad funk. However, I'm looking forward to (finally after what will be 10 months) going home in June. 😀

5. Achieve distinction for the year for AB and AHWAFS.

6. Attempt to stay on top or keep up with new material in class. (I already know this one will fail since I promise myself every module to do so.)

7. Continue to attempt to follow the platinum rule even though the golden rule is easier.

My list is still slowly building!

I guess I could say my resolution is to continue with a resolution I made back in August... which is health related like most people! I really want to show up at vet school as a much healthier and trimmer person. Ultimately I would like to lose 30% of my body weight (don't worry, it is a healthy goal). So far I have lost 10%, so 20% more to go. Realistically, if I can lose 10% more by August I will be significantly healthier and happier! And maybe I can knock off the last 10% after school starts (I know that isn't likely, but maybe!). Maybe posting this here will help me stay on track!

I've decided I don't really want to do any resolutions this year. I usually set little goals for myself throughout the year anyway (keep the apartment clean, bring lunch more, cook dinner at home more, etc) so I'm not going to worry myself with them.

Not that others can't, though. Good luck guys! 🙂

Hey G2D, I'm trying to get back to a more healthy weight myself (along with just better health in general, which is a really challenging goal for me...chronic health issues). Where in CO do you live? I hike almost every day. Would be great to have some company!

1.) Exercise at least four times per week, including my equestrian team riding lesson one day, a group fitness class another day, something fun (rock climbing/basketball) another day, and more traditional cardio/strength training another day.

2.) Stop eating like a dang fat kid. I'm not terribly fat but I'm definitely fluffier than I'd like to be, and I could probably cut out a LOT of what I eat and still be eating what a normal person would not consider a "diet."

3.) Run a couple of 5ks in the spring/summer/fall. I did the Couch to 5K this past summer and ran two 5Ks in September, so I just need to work back up to it.

4.) Spend more time in the library at school. I often try to study at home and I ALWAYS end up getting distracted. So I guess studying more effectively and more often goes along with this goal. I need to really revamp my study skills if I'm going to be successful at vet school this fall.

5.) Get straight A's for the rest of my undergrad and graduate in June magna cum laude.

6.) Learn absolutely as much as humanly possible this summer with the vets I interned with last summer.

7.) OWN my first quarter of vet school!

Be thankful for my health, family and good fortune every day.

I'd like to spend more time with my family and friends, as much as possible.

My roommate and I made a resolution together to exercise three times a week and go to yoga/zumba classes together at our university's fitness center. She needs to stay fit because she's in the ROTC and I need to stay fit for my trip to New Zealand in May. We're climbing glaciers and hiking everywhere imaginable on both islands. And, quite frankly, I don't want to pass out from exhaustion in Narnia. I want to enjoy it =)

I've decided to train for a half-marathon in an effort to be healthier. A friend of mine has done a few marathons and she's been trying to talk me into training and doing one for a while now. I also plan to not get sick any more, since I've basically been sick since starting vet school (I blame moving to a different country).

Hmm I think my main resolution would be to get a new job, I've worked at the same property for about *cough* 15 years, time for a change. Umm my other resolution would be to not except anything less than 150+ percent in my studies and school. 😀 Go Team. 👍

Ooh Ooh... I have a new one!

Figure out what the definition of a troll is.

Well, normally:

One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and arguments

Courtesy of Urban Dictionary lol. But in this case, it's more of a spammer - like a bot. The link (for absolute crap I'm sure) in the signature is a dead giveaway, as is the fact that this was their only post.

Ooh Ooh... I have a new one!

Figure out what the definition of a troll is.

"a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off -topic messages in an online community"

The message above is RATHER suspicious since it is the only post by that person and they thought it was of UBER importance to include the link to a spam website for heartworm medications in their signature.

Coincidence? I don't think so. 🙂

Happy New Year, SH 🙂

Too bad it's a troll because I was going to agree. But, it looks like SDN is going to become the new addiction. Oh no!

Also, let me add eat healthier to my list.

http://i56.tinypic.com/vpda3a.jpg < --- what happens when my roommate and I decide to eat healthier, nothing but ewww food. just kidding, some has been good.

Haha, I'd take a picture of what I've eaten today, but I'm a bit embarrassed. Aside from some sushi, it's been like, guacamole and chips, french onion dip and chips, a bowl of crispix, two cups of very sugary tea, and like 8 cookies. Damn the holidays.

....Damn the holidays.

I guess I should have mentioned that was taken during finals week when we were trying to get some "brain juice" going. We were eating like that up until Christmas Eve when we both cried out WTH! IT'S CHRISTMAS! and then proceeded to gorge ourselves 👍

But, hey, it's not the new year yet. I have time.

I wanna eat healthier, try to read more non-fiction books, and try to fix my posture. It's horrible. I didn't realize just how much I've been slouching recently until I went home and was standing next to my sister and she was like an inch and a half taller than I was when she's usually just like half an inch or so taller than I am. This needs fixing! (As a side note, this was also my resolution last year and I didn't do anything about it then, butthis gave me more motivation.)

And a kind-of new year's resolution is to try to get over being so shy and afraid of new things. That'll take a lot longer than a year, though. But I've been working on it for a while and doing okay at it, I think.

1. This is mushy, but I mean it! My main resolution is to thank people who have been beyond generous to me. I want to mail really special letters to (1) the four people who wrote eLORs on my behalf, (2) the people on my work references list who always made time to talk to future employers to help me score great new job opportunities, (3) people who donated money when I was fundraising for my trip to Romania with World Vets this past spring. I have, of course, always thanked these people - I would just really love to take the time to express my gratitude and let them know how much it means to me. Words could never do it justice, but I will try anyway because these people have been incredible and I am so fortunate to have had their support and guidance 😍

2. I need to start running with my fabulous little dog again! Adjusting to my new work schedule (a chaotic combo of days, nights, overnights and on call shifts) has been tough and as a result I'm not getting to spend as much time with her and I can't stand it! Running together was great for both of us in a lot of ways, so it needs to make a comeback in 2011!

3. Keep a positive outlook. Always be gracious. Remember to relax and find humor in crappy situations and just keep on going!

4. Work my pants off in my new job! Learn as much as humanly possible and squeeze every stinkin' ounce out of the awesome opportunity!

Rock on, guys! There are some solid resolutions on this thread!

Not start drinking until 515pm, even though it gets dark at 330pm.

I have an addition to mine:

6) Work on being less stubborn and headstrong... and accepting that no, I don't have to do everything perfectly.... *sigh*

1. Be more responsible with my finances. I don't make that much, most of my paycheck goes to food and rent (I'm certain many of you can sympathize.) I have a bad habit of starting to save, but instead using that money to visit friends (gas) or on little things to make my day better. I think this spending is necessary so that I don't feel too much under the poverty line, but it leaves me with little in reserve as a buffer and my bank account with less than 25 bucks in it at the end of a lean month.

2. Lose those last 15-20 lbs and keep them off. This is an ongoing struggle for me. I made it my goal this year to lose weight for health, and I succeeded in getting within the "normal" BMI category. Now I want to be able to go to Express or another trendy store and not be told they "don't carry that size in-store, you could try online, but really, we don't cater to you."

3. Be a good student, assuming I get in to vet school. As an undergrad I felt there were life experiences to be gained that outweighed a 4.0, and I still stand by them, even if a 4.0 would be AMAZING for this application process. However, in professional school, there is no excuse for not doing your utmost. I won't have to work to pay for Vet school, so making it my job is what I need to do.

At least you have REALLY good scotch! I'm still clinging to the last few drops of the two bottles I brought back with me last time I was over. And my mother got us a bottle of Scapa for Christmas! YAY.

I don't really "do" New Year's Resolutions, but my major goal right now is to get my fat a** to the gym and get back into a routine. Especially since I have an interview in 22 days! (Oh eff. 😱 ) This is both because I'd really, really love not to have to buy a new suit and just be able to fit into my old ones, and also because I am going to visit my college and old college friends when I'm there, as my college town is on the way. And there is nothing like seeing people who remember when you were 20lbs lighter to make you want to get back to that! It also has a huge impact on my riding, and I AM going to finish in the top of my division for the horse show season this year.

Thank god I'm not alone on this one. I cracked open a beer the other night and then realized it was only 4pm! 😱 It seemed like it had been dark for ages so it was proper drinking time...

In the obligatory health-related category, got my hands on the p90x program so I guess my resolution for that is to not die. Also learn to cook and eat better food - already have a fruit bowl with four oranges in it, so good strides are being made on that front!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :hardy:

Resolutions this year...

Like most, I need to get my arse off the couch and lose those 20lbs I've gained. I lost 60+ and was doing well for a long time; but it's starting to creep back on. Damn that working full time while going to school.

Become less of a 'Type A' personality.

Save money.

Do something that makes me happy (other than drink beer). I've spent so much time focused on work and school that I've lost track of a lot of things in my life. And maybe if I cut back on the brewskies, it will help with goal #1? However, I fear it may set me back on goal #2!!

Happy NEW YEAR!

I guess my biggest resolution is to slow down and appreciate my life and the people/animals in it, espeically before getting to go off to vet school 😀.
In that light, I also want to take advantage of a spring with NO classes, and hopefully get to ski, ride horses, and work on my awful 5K time, lol I also want to read as many enjoyable books as possible and maybe work on my Spanish.

Wishing everyone a New Year full of blessings!

Ah, but will the oranges just shrivel up, or will you actually eat them? 😛Hopefully, you'll do much better than I have in the past. I'll buy fruit, and then throw it out for the wildlife when I realize it has become inedible for humans.

I'm much more disciplined with the exercise stuff. Very interested in the p90x thing. Does it look do-able, or is it all a bunch of hype?

Couch to 5k starts on the 10th. I'm pumped now, but I probably won't say the same at 6:30 that morning.

👍

Good luck! I did the C25K this summer and LOVED it. Sounds silly but totally changed my life. I did something I never would have thought I could and ran two 5ks in September. Unfortunately I've fallen out of the running loop for the most part but I want to start up the C25K again on Monday.

I think my biggest resolution is to survive next semester's 21 hours with some semblance of sanity left, haha! I'd also like to try to eat better more consistently. Little Debbies do not count as dinner.
And I've also resolved to not waste my time on certain people. Instead, I will focus on new relationships that don't bring me down. 🙂

Not-really-resolutions-but-year-goals:
- Fit into my nice suit! I bought it mid-way through my freshman year, when I had lost my freshman fifteen... and then I went back to my original weight and heavier!
- Successfully put fondant on a cake. No cracks, no ripples.
- Figure out my new DSLR (<3) and take awesome pictures of sloths in Costa Rica.
- 8hrs of sleep a night. (Exceptions exist for physics and chemistry tests, but that's all.)
- Learn the basics of glowstringing/possibly take a poi class.
- Pet a reindeer. Corollary: Not freeze to death studying abroad in Finland.

Somebody needs to bump this thread at the end of the year. 🙂

I ate one! So far so good. Re: p90x, I've talked to a few people who have done it and the consensus seems to be that if you can make it through, it's pretty much amazing. Of course, the program is designed to kick your butt in every way possible so you want to give up...but...well, I have always been an all or nothing sort of person. I'll let you know how it goes, though. I got my hands on it for free, so I figure it's worth it even if I only manage a few days before crying mercy.

Ugh. P90X == hell on earth. My crazy friend who loves working out made me do it twice, and you definitely feel the burn (for days and days... and days) 🙂

There's a few vids online for free if you don't want to buy the whole deal.
But definitely my New Year's Resolution as well. We'll see how that goes...🙄

I started the workouts today! Planning on doing a 7k on St. Patty's Day with some friends... :luck:

Awesome! I don't have a specific 5k that I want to run or anything, but eventually I'd like to be able to run for 30+ minutes at a respectable rate multiple times per week. My SO wants me to try out the first day with him on Saturday. He can already run for miles and miles but he is really encouraging me to get active again.

👍

That is inspiring! I've read a lot of personal accounts about C25k and I keep sitting here thinking, "If they can do it, I must be able to do it too, right?" I've never even been able to run a full mile (maybe on an elliptical), but I'm hoping to change that.
