New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
New here. Ive been reading this for a while, but now I'm just looking for a bit of help to make sure things go smoothly.

I was accepted here a couple of weeks ago. I interviewed the second week of Feb. I sent in the deposit and after a good wait I was able to confirm through email that my deposit was received. That was about 10 days ago and I haven't gotten any confirmation in the mail with the follow-up info. I also got an email from Certiphi, but basically it just says I was added to the system and I "either have or will shortly be receiving instructions from your program to initiate this process...." Its been a week and I still haven't gotten anything from them for me to fill out. Can anyone shed some light on this?

If anything, the admissions office is probably bombarded right now. The best thing is to reach out to them by phone call. I don't think they are expecting to send out any serious details until april/may.

I was in the exact same boat as you. I received the e-mail about Certiphi before I got anything in the mail. I called admissions, and the woman I spoke with was extremely friendly and let me know that a letter with further instructions was sent out in the mail and should be arriving in a few days, and if I didn't receive it, to call back. Once you get the letter, it tells you all of the instructions for requesting a Criminal background check, immunizations, etc. I waited over a week for the letter as well, but once I called it all sorted itself out. You don't have to do anything in regards to the Certiphi email, but definitely give them a call!
Hope this helps!

Thank you guys for the help I really appreciate it!

My acceptance letter senses are tingling. Brace yourselves ladies and gentlemen.

For anyone who also interviewed the week of March 9th my premed advisor happened to run into a member of NYIT admissions who told her decisions come out in April.

They sent a letter out for the background check. It is simple, just a link + passcode to the school's preferred type of check. I would offer it here, but I do not want to make it public. Filling it out took about 10 minutes but it costs $121. The only other items included was a physical confirmation of the deposit, DPC application and immunization forms (MMR + meningitis) to be filled out by a physician.

Hey how long after you sent in your deposit did you get the envelope? I've been waiting almost two weeks now since they confirmed my deposit and about three weeks total....

A while, they seem to be bombarded. Be patient, everything is cool -- your acceptance isn't going anywhere.

When will we hear back of our interview is on April 8?

Will we know early enough to pay deposits for the deadlines?

They usually quote 2-4 weeks, but seem to have been swamped with work these last few weeks. The 4th week of February has yet to hear back and are moving into their 5th week, unless of course we have heard back and no one on SDN was part of the accepted students. But we are much more optimistic than that in here! So we will reject such boulderdash until we actually see people accepted after our interview date, or get a waitlist letter. As for deadlines I believe it should adjust based on how late in the cycle you are accepted. Right now it appears to be 30 days after being accepted (from the posts people have made), but it should decrease as time goes on. Eventually I believe you need to give them a nearly immediate deposit as some people can get accepted during orientation week, I believe.

According to AACOMAS traffic guideline schedule, those accepted between January 15 and May 14 will have 14 days to pay deposit. But I am not sure if NYCOM follows that same schedule for deposits.

I received my acceptance letter March 12th (not sure when they mailed it out) and had to send them my deposit by March 20th, so about a week. But as long as the letter is postmarked on or before the 20th they said it was okay.

Hi to all who got interviewed on the 4th week of February!
Just called the admissions office, got really tired of waiting for the decision, and the lady told me that no decision was made yet!!!
But she said this week for sure they will meet and to expect letters end of week/early next week...

Thanks for posting this! As anxious as I am to hear back, its good news to hear that the silence was not due to a possible rejection.

Does this mean all interviewees from late February - late March will get their decisions at the same time?

the trends seem to indicate this. Right?

Thanks from 2nd week applicants as well! I hope they combine ours and that we all are accepted!

I sure hope so!! I'm coming up on 3 weeks since my interview. Anyone else having nightmares about the decision? Had one 2 nights ago. :lame:

Id say so. I think the next group will hear back much quicker than us. Maybe 2-3 weeks instead. Also, yes I'd imagine they will at least group the first week of March with us, likely the second week too.

Other than submitting the FAFSA, has anyone else filled out any of the other required documents that are stated on the Financial Aid page of NYIT-COM's website?

Yah know. Considering its April Fools. I think it is a good thing they didn't send out acceptances today.

What should I expect if my interview was March 24?

I looked at last years thread, it seems if yu hear back within 2 weeks you're accepted, if not you're waitlistwd

It really depends on how busy admissions is, when you interviewed in reference to their last committee meeting, how late into the application cycle, and of course the phase of the moon haha. 4th week of February has yet to hear back and we are at 5 weeks, so that shows that you really cannot know. Things happen. I think the best indicator is either watching for people getting accepted from your interview week (or a later week) or just getting a formal decision letter.

I think when the committee meets, likely this Thursday, a large amount of people are going to get decisions to compensate for the delays. It sounds like it's pretty chaotic on their end right now.

Man I feel your pain... I was losing sleep after two weeks can't imagine what it must be like to be in limbo for so long. Best of luck to all you guys

As Blackxp stated, it depends on how often the committee meets. If they don't meet for a few weeks, there's no way they can make a decision. When they do meet, i'm sure the letters are mailed out by the end of the week, and applicants will hear the following week. The committee may have sent out many acceptances and are awaiting replies, or the expiration of such, to get an idea of how many seats are still available to offer out, or they may have had family issues, illnesses, or other matters that they all were unable to sit down and go through applicants. Anything is possible!

I'm doing my best not to think about it, because my heart races every time it crosses my mind. Best to stay busy, and positive, since nothing else can be done.

Went on an interview on the 31st. They told us we would hear back 4-6 weeks. Most likely 4 weeks

Any interviews scheduled after April 8th? Is April 8th the last interview date for this cycle?

To anyone that was accepted was it a small or big envelope?
Sorry I can't remember if it was already asked in the thread and should be receiving a letter over the next couple of weeks. Just trying to prepare myself lol.

When I called to schedule mine there were some out as far as the last week of April, both morning and afternoon sessions. However I took the earliest one for obvious reasons (April 8th).

big envelope lol not that knowing will change the outcome! you'll be fine, I believe in you! 😛

Question, do they only mail a letter, or do they also call/send an email?

They just mail out decisions for now.

I've sent then emails w/ updates (I'm in a grad program right now) so I'm wondering if that's effective at all? Not sure.. I've called before to ask for updates on my application and received the typical "we will contact you when we need to" response..

Did you receive a confirmation or get an email back from them?
I sent in an update on Monday via email, and haven't gotten anything back. Which email address did you send it to? the [email protected] ?

I unfortunately haven't received responses from them via email. And yeah I sent it to the email address you mentioned. I think (or hope) it just goes into my folder for review...

I'll be applying this next cycle. Any idea of my shot here with a 25 Mcat 3.8+ cGPA/sGPA?
And good luck to everyone who has applied this cycle waiting to hear!

If you're instate you may be fine, although that MCAT is very low. If you're out of state you may have to retake the mcat and do the equivalent of a 28

My stats are 30 mcat, 3.5 overall, 3.3 science and I'm still waiting to hear back
