Expect waitlists at this point
Last years thread shows that if you receive an acceptance, something comes within two weeks, some people had longer times before decisions were made and they were all waitlists

I'm still hopeful. Call it crazy optimism, but I feel as if its still different than the situation you have provided. If they had accepted people between the last week of February and the last week of March (Since they are now at 2 weeks) then that would make sense, but no one has been accepted. So no one has been left behind. It could mean that the class might be close to full and they want to prioritize the remaining seats to the best candidates and as a result are trying to lump all of the interview groups together, but who knows. All I know is that I interviewed 1 week too late haha.

We just gotta keep in there. I will plan another cycle if needed since its getting closer and closer to June, but I won't freak out just yet. We got time and the only thing we can do is be patient.

I think you hit the nail on the head...

I agree. No reason to panic or expect the worst. If no decisions are received this week or next it seems possible they could lump large groups together. They could also behind - I don't think being a week or two behind at this point in the cycle is unbelievable, especially considering the recent holidays.

if spots are limited it's odd that they're still handing out IIs

From what I was told, spots still exist but they are also beginning to waitlist. I know that they have had a hard time meeting as a committee... My application was still with the committee when I called as well and no letter had been mailed yet.

For anyone who already registered using their login information, the website talks about paying a $500 deposit for undergaduates, and then a different amount if in grad school. I'm guessing that since we already paid $1500 deposit, we won't need more? I just opened my account and got a 39K bill! I guess they really want you to sign up for their insurance 😉

Also - If I remember correctly, this school doesn't hand out rejection letters. Post or pre-interview. If we are looking for people getting off of wait list, I would suspect maybe more will after MD school acceptance deadline?

When is the general date for MD school acceptance deadline?

JW how do you know they don't give rejection letters post invite? That just seems very unprofessional to me if its true

I believe May 15th.
Interesting...according to that link they may have had to have offered a number of acceptance letters equal to seats (so about 300) by March 15th...that might explain the delay. They may have sent out a ton between January-February and now they are holding back to see how many of those acceptance letters come through. (I know its for MD schools but DO probably follow a similar timeframe)

I was wait listed last year at NYIT and didn't hear back. If you check last year's thread, it didn't seem like there were any rejections posted/received.

I don't believe NYIT-COM has to adhere to those guidelines. However, they could be waiting to see those who have been accepted/interviewed at NYIT-COM withdraw their applications due to accepting an offer at an MD school, before NYIT-COM continues to offer out the remaining seats.

I know NYCOM gets something ridiculous along the lines of 7000 applications... They probably get a high volume of applicants who use NYCOM as safety due to the fact that its a good school, DO, large class size, no supplemental essay, cheap secondary cost & NY/Northeast location. Tons of in state bias make it a great school to add for applicants. Going to guess they are waiting on some drops due to data from previous years

Oh ok but you were still wait listed (sorry it didn't work out last year) so you did hear back post interview. The problem here seems to be that no one is hearing back anymore, even a wait list.

You will eventually hear back post-interview. Waitlist notices tend to come in later than acceptances. It's just if you are not accepted, they don't send you rejections - they ask you if you want to be placed on waitlist.

This is exactly what I've been trying to tell people

It's so late for a response... They did the exact same thing last year to people who were wait listed

Find me an example of a person from this year or last year that got a straight acceptance after waiting so long after their interview

Typically acceptances seem to come about 2 weeks after their interview

The school has an incentive to send acceptances out quicker... They want their $ and they want to know who's serious about their school

If you were told a reply would be sent out in ~ 4 weeks, assuming that because you have yet to hear anything by 2 weeks implies a waitlist seems far from certain

I didn't want to be brutally honest in my original post. But, we have to understand... if they got a good impression from a candidate from the interviews and they know for sure he/she would be an acceptance, they would have send out the acceptance letters within a couple of weeks.

The fact that the school is still giving out interview invites and is holding on to your file post interview.... is not necessarily a good sign, which means it will most likely be a wait list if they follow the suit from last year.

I was suppose to interview last week of Feb but was able to pull up my interview date by a week. It's kind of scary to think that I could have been in some of your places... and I totally feel for some you guys cause I was in that place last year. Hang on and hope for good news, but it's mid April and it wouldn't hurt to start preparing for your back up plan.

You totally have "I told you so" rights here if I am wrong, but one other thing that really works against what you are saying is what we have been told when we call admissions. In the beginning we were told that there was no decision on our application. Wouldn't we just be told that we have been waitlisted or that a waitlist letter has been mailed out? In addition to this, just recently were are now being told that our file is with the committee and we should expect a decision soon and that they are sorry about the delays. Now, the delay cannot be terribly great, but I do not believe it is as lethal as you have said. It might mean that the class is close to full or even full and they are waiting for more spots to open up before making a decision. That is much better than being placed on a waitlist. I think as we get closer to April 30th more seats will clear up. As long as more seats clear up and no one from the 4th week of February - April 30th is accepted then they must use to fill those seats. In addition to this they are inviting more and more people to interviews, so that has to be working with us.

Again, the pessimism is well warranted. I am definitely going to plan for another cycle but I can passively gather things until May 1st when the next year's application system opens. I just want to attempt to save as much money as possible instead of freaking out too early. Quite stressful though, but we will get through this. Whether its this year or next year.

Call me an ultra optimist, but I got some good "feels" about this cycle still.

Okay guys, I interviewed a while ago and I haven't heard back yet and I don't think this necessarily means I'm wait-listed or rejected. In fact, after many calls and news, it's been confirmed that the committee hasn't met after the interviews conducted in the last week of February.
So it is best to stay positive and rather than giving negative news out to all those waiting, just don't talk about things you are not certain of. Last year and this year are two different cycles and two different pools of applicants and committee meetings. You never know what's going to happen. Last I heard, the committee should get back to people in 2 to 3 weeks for sure.

No one has posted any acceptance for over 6 weeks now, so I dont think it has to do with not getting a good impression from candidates. It may have to do with them already having a full class or something, although it seems early for that since their class size is huge. I'm definitely optimistic about acceptances coming out soon

When I called I asked the lady if it's "just me" or everyone who was interviewed the same week had to wait for decision for so long, she assured me that the delay was for everyone, the admissions committee has simply not yet met. Really doubt that we all are being placed on waitlist. Keep your hopes up!

That is good 🙂 I'm actually glad to hear that the admissions were able to give you guys the assurance that they just haven't simply met yet.

I'm sorry if I sounded pessimistic, it wasn't to put a downer on anyone. But I didn't think it would hurt anyone to say prepare for next step/back up if it doesn't work out.

has anyone applied for the dpc curriculum? do you know when results come out?

I spoke with admissions today. The class is not even full yet. Anyone that hasn't heard is not automatically wait listed. No one here can possibly predict anything beyond that so we should all keep our hopes up. It is never bad to be prepared for the worst, but by no means does this delay mean we have been wait listed or rejected. Good luck to all those through this rough waiting period!

I think we all knew that the committee hasn't met which is why no decisions have been made. The real question is why they haven't met?

Have you ever worked at a college institution? Things never go to plan and are usually late... I worked in an office resp. for a much smaller program and received much less applications -- it was still s*** show. Lots of red tape, certain people need to be at XX at XX time, weather, and I am sure plenty of politics

Any news on what the new changes to the lecture based curriculum are supposed to be?

Any news on what the new changes to the lecture based curriculum are supposed to be?

They made a major change to it last year. From what I understand: First semester is essentially a mix of basic sciences (mainly biochem looking at the LDB calendar, some physio, histo, genetics, micro, pharm etc...) called Foundations along with anatomy then neuroanatomy etc. There are 6 comprehensive exams and 1 cumulative lecture final that includes anatomy/sciences. Then there are anatomy lab exams + written OPP exams + OPP lab exams in addition. Def check out the LDB calendar week by week and see how it works. Then in January you start systems (first is musculoskeletal) which is an integrative approach with all physio, path, histo, pharm into that system -- I think there is about 2 comprehensive exams per system.

Changes this year (from current students) will just reduce the amount of meaningless lectures, but its not like anyone goes to them anyway. From the interview, seems that everyone streams the lectures and is only on campus for labs, clinical practicals and tests

I truly hope we are all accepted and i am wrong.
I was trying to deduce something based on loose trends i noticed.

I agree with your guys' analysis that Late February's decision delay could be for a variety of reasons.

I certainly am trying to maintain hope.

Thank you. There are a lot of applicants waiting to hear back - myself being one of them. :grumpy: Good luck and please, keep us posted for sure if you hear anything else! (Whether WL'd or Accepted, I will be immediately posting to let people know there is some kind of motion)

The Facebook group has 222 members, but it appears to have a LARGE population of current students looking to sublet their apartments to incoming students. For example, the "Class of 2018" group has something like 800 students.

Take this for what it is.. It might not mean anything, but I joined the Facebook group as soon as I was accepted, and I assume lots of people do as well.

Keep the hope alive and never give up!

I hope to see all of you next year!

So I sent in an update letter a while ago and am still waiting for a ii. At this point the only thing I can think to do is send a letter of intent since nycom is indeed my first choice. But should letter of intents only be send after interviews? Any input?

When did you submit your primary/secondary? What are your stats? To my knowledge, they will offer out invites to those they deem academically capable of the program, and certainly take into consideration how early you submitted your application. Nothing says "I want to go here" more than submitting an application the first day you're able to.

I'm not certain whether a letter of intent would help at this point; It depends if the committee would look at your file when your file is updated, but I don't think it could hurt.

Good luck with whichever choice you make!

Would anyone that interviewed recently be nice enough to give a quick description of the actual interview?

I keep seeing, 20 minutes, relaxed, and conversational, but no information on who interviews you or the type of questions to look out for. Got my interview set for Wednesday. Excited and nervous at the same time.

Thanks in advance and good luck to all those who are waiting. It's gotta be nerve racking to wait over a month for an envelope. Keep in there and keep the faith!

#FlashbackFriday :hungover: Who'd have guessed some would be waiting 7+ weeks? =p

Its funny because I got super excited when I saw the previous group get a decision after about 2 weeks or so. So about 5 weeks ago I was telling my family and friends that they should be looking out for the mail because a decision is likely imminent.

It will eventually happen though. Its a test of patience and ability to handle stress. I cannot imagine match day being any easier. Nor would I imagine the amount of knowledge acquisition required in medical school will be any easier. I have been fighting uphill for this for too long to give up this easy.

In other news... We shall use this magnificent animal to pass the time. I got problems, why is this so funny?
