Does anyone have any recommendations for housing in the Upper East Side within walking distance to New York-Pres / Cornell Medical Center?

Have you tried the Cornell housing service (http://www.med.cornell.edu/housing/student/)?

They have a guest house, I would call and ask... that is if you are doing an away or something. They also have an apartment for the medical students and several (3-4) apartments for the residents. They are all within several blocks of the hospital.
