Hi I was just wondering if anyone else is completely new?

I just recently received my EMT-Paramedic and decided that I want to increase my patient care scope, since I have developed such a love for it.

I plan to begin taking coarses at Cleveland State University toward my BS in Biology this comming spring. I have just a few questions if anyone has time.

Going to a college such as Cleveland State will that lessen my ability to get into a medical school, since other certain schools are valued higher?

Should I double major or perhaps minor in a chemistry class or humanities? I personally like studying any subject except math

Has anyone or is anyone making a transition from an allied health profession to pursue a carreer as a physician?

Anyone from Ohio?

Well those were just a some of my questions I wanted to ask. Again if this is the incorrect forum, I'm sorry and if there is another forum for New PreMed students a direction to it would be appreciated 🙂

I am currently making the transition you hope to, from Paramedic to MD (hopefully).

I don't know anything about Cleveland State, but if you perform well in school I really don't think your choice of major or school will affect you. Others may disagree, but from my own experience I find that not to be true. I received my B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The things that will affect your acceptance to medical school obviously are your performance in school (GPA) and your MCAT score.

Having extensive patient care experience certainly will be great, I know it has helped me a lot, both in making the decision to become a doctor, and in showing medical schools that I am serious about this.

I would also highly suggest some research experience.

Sorry for ranting, I guess I just have a lot to say in this area, as it sounds very much like the path I traveled.
If you have any other questions, let me know.

Thanks alot donnyfire!

It does sound like I am going down the road you have taken, sorta. Since I am pretty green in this area forgive me when I say Research? 😕

Thanks again.

bump to daffy on the research explanation.

Thanks daffy for making that clear. I guess I really never put to much thought into research but the idea is pretty exciting.

Thanks again!
