when applying for a residency through the match, can you only apply to one field or can you apply to multiple fields? Say for example you are interested in IM and Pathology. Can you rank program in each field seperatly or do you have to choose one field, with one rank list. Thanks!

You can rank whatever you want. Of course, you have to apply and interview in two different specialties if this is your plan, and you'd probably have to do different personal statements, etc etc. Some people do it if they are applying for a competitive specialty but don't think they will get in. But you could do

1) Radiology at U of X hospital
2) Internal med at U of X hospital
3) Anesthesia at U of X
4) Radiology at U of Y
5) Int Med at U of Y

etc. The match algorithm will go through your list and their lists and match you up, it doesn't do it by specialty.
