Hi everyone,

I just came across this board and it seems great!

I'm considering a career in optometry. I have looked over some of the previous threads. One of the study materials mentioned was 'Lippincott's Complete Preparation for the OAT". I was wondering whether this would be suffiicient enough to study from. Also, does anyone know whether Kaplan/Princeton offer OAT study materials?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch! 😀

I only looked at the OAT Kaplan books and did fine (90th percentile)
dont get too many OAT books, stick to just 1 or 2 and you'll be fine.

i'm also using just the oat kaplan books. can you tell me how long you spent studying it? in what orders did you study the sections? how many times did you go through the review books? where did you get practice problems from?

i want to know how i should pace myself to be ready by the oct oat.

I think it depends on you yourself which sections you should start preping first. Different people learn differently, obviously...and there are different strategies...depending on how much time you have. As for me, I mostly just showed up to class and scored in the 90th percentile. Although my friend studied hard with her Kaplan OAT book and skipped classes, and scored in the 90th percentile too. Which way is better? it really depends on you...

Hello:

Princeton Review does offer study materials for the class. I actually took the review course but I think you can do fine with just the books if you are really strict on yourself.

there isnt a formula really to study for the OAT. I taught Biology for about a year and tutored in Chemistry so, those were the things I studied LEAST.
I took a whole summer to study for the OAT (wow! it was last summer, how quickly time passes....hmm), i remember making flashcards for Organic chemistry section...that helped quite a bit...
anyway, just pace yourself and its important that you set a time each day to study and dont slack off ! as you only want to take it once and get it over with...
