I for one haven't had many bad, painful dental experiences... I assumed fear of the dentist was as much a myth as the suicide rate study. After we worked on about 3 patients this past semester that made no secret of how they or their family members felt about dentists in general... I was a bit surprised. There are still tons of people who are terrified of dental treatment. What gives?

I've talked to people whose teeth are half rotted out of their head and causing them pain but were to scared of the dentist to go...I didn't think we were that bad lol

I receieved excess cavity fillings.
It doesn't affect my dental health too badly though.

i think its largely the acoustics of the procedure resonating through your skull.

I think people are just really sensitive about their mouths. I certainly know alot of people that would feel much better about the dentist if the drills were silent too.

a lady once told me she would rather deliver another baby than go to the dentist

I've had people pass out from fear during my shadowing.
