Hello everyone. Has I just recently took next steps full length exams. On exam 4 my score dropped to 498, compared to my score of 503 on test 3. Did anyone have a similar experience? How do next steps full lengths compare to the real MCAT? I am aiming for a 505 at least.

It could have been just a bad test for you as far as questions that may have been on topics you are particularly weak at. In my personal experience exam 4 was the most representative out of all the tests. Exam 5 gets harder and skip exam 6.

Thank goodness - some people are saying FL5 is the easiest out of 3,4,5. I haven't taken 3 or 4 but that CP on FL5 destroyed me.

I haven't taken FL4 yet but a lot of people say FL 4 is really hard (out of 1-4) - maybe it was also a bad test day for you. Just work on learning from your mistakes and honing in those weak areas. The real indicator of where you stand will be the AAMC scores. 🙂

Do you mind me asking how you scored on the other tests? Why do you say it's most reprensitive?

definitely take what I say with a grain of salt. I was just speaking from my own personal experience. I think looking up score conversion charts from reddit should give you a better idea of what people have getting on these exams vs what they actually got. And remember to just keep treating these tests as practice. You won't know for a sure what score you are hovering around until you take the AAMC fl tests.

Also, not sure how much time you have left, but if you are scoring 503 consistently on the NS I'd shoot for higher than a 505, because that will be highly likely. You will be very surprised when you take an AAMC fl test.

Thank you! I've heard some people say the scored 5 points higher than their NS and then others say they scored the same. I will be taking the mcat august 24. The score drop just really scared me because I thought I was on track for a 504.

I'm taking my test august 24. Do you suggest I go ahead and take the AAMC Unscored to see where I'm at?

Oh okay, yeah you have plenty of time. DO NOT take the AAMC fls yet. If you you absolutely cannot fight the urge to, take Sample FL 3 weeks before and Fl1 2 weeks before and FL2 a few days-week before actual exam. These are the most valuable sources of practice and indicators of where you are ACTUALLY at. Also, take the Sample FL with a grain of salt as well as it is significantly easier, so do not get cocky from that test. Also, as far as the score drop don't worry about it. Just make sure you are extensively going over the questions you got wrong. If you are getting questions wrong because of content, review that content. If you are getting questions wrong because of interpreting the passage, then more practice is needed. You will start to become familiar with passage styles and whatnot. Also, leave all the AAMC practice materials (which i recommend buying every single one of them) to do until the last 2-3 weeks. Don't be foolish like me and not have any left to do anymore lol. You have to keep in mind that all the AAMC materials were made by the people who make the MCAT exams thus will be the most valuable practice compared to other third party exams.

Thank you for the help. Sadly, I actually started with the aamc Q packs. I have one bio and one cars section last as well as the section bank. I will wait to use those.

yeah that's fine. the packs are not so great, minus the bio and cars. Your BEST resource other than the FL exams is the section bank, which is representative of the harder the questions you will encounter. I learned the most out of these questions. good luck!

When should I take the bank? Thanks!
