Hello all- I am in a bad situation because of my low gpa (all AMCAS GPAs: ~2.9) at a top-30 LAC. I did however manage to get a 40R MCAT score this year. This semester I got three Fs because of being ill, and I am still working on getting better. I have one more semester before I graduate, but where ever I apply to in January will not see those grades till May. So my question is whether SMPs will accept me with these stats. I will be applying as an economically disadvantaged student.

I think SMPs would accept you, if only based on your MCAT. But a lot of SMPs have minmum GPA rpre-reqs of 3.0 - so look at the requirements before applying.

I suggest that you might look into getting a retroactive withdrawal from those F classes if you have documentation of your illness.

Why would a transcript sent out in January not include your fall grades?

I was referring to the grades I would get in the Spring '12 semester. And yes, I sent an email to my Dean asking about the process for retroactive withdrawals.

You should also consider re-taking the poor grade classes. AACOMAS grade replacement policy will help make you competetive for DO schools. Otherwise, the SMP/post-bac sounds like a good plan.
