Can someone explain the answer to this question please? Thanks

In their explanation they give an equation. Also, sound waves are propagated by matter - that's why sounds can't travel in space. Therefore, A and B cannot be correct. That leaves C and D and there, you need to know that as something gets denser, it gets harder to transmit a sound wave. That's because as molecules are packed tighter together, when the sound vibrates one, it doesn't travel very far before it has to be transferred to the next particle and so on.

The speed of sound can be found with this equation:

v = Root ( B/rho)

B: bulk modulus
rho: density of medium.

So, if you increase rho, the denominator increases and this causes the number to get smaller.

If you increase B, the number increases and therefore D is the answer
