It's ctually due the 6th. but here is a more specific question:

can you get out of it once you submit the app? do you have to take it if you ge the schlarship? I Heard you sign a contract but I don't know whether its binding?

I just sent my app in yesterday. I have a friend who did it, just graduated from VCU and is now working in a not-so-rural area in Idaho and he LOVES it. No debt, plus he gets to focus on learning/enhancing his skills for a few years without the stress of starting his own practice and he's not stuck in the military. Oh, and he's making some pretty good cash. Didn't tell me how much, but its definitely over 100K.

I have thought about it... and thikn it may not be the best thing for me. I have always thought taht I didn't want to specialize... but want to keep that option open. Also, wouldn't it be smarter to maybe just invest in a practice over those 4 years you are serving and start working for yourself to pay that off all at once?
Anyone want to play devil's advocate? I have been discussig with my dad because I am somewhat niave about large loans and how long it takes to really pay it off. Any input from knowledgeable people would be appreciated. My thoughts are mostly just thoughts and I'm trying to come to a conclusion.

Check the Dental board. There's a pretty good thread going on there right now on this subject. Personal testimonies, etc.
