Hey all of you students who attend AZPOD or anyone who lives in the area. I was wondering if you could fill me in on some nice spots there. What are some places to avoid. Any information would be awesome. What about Surprise? Is it too far away? Is it a good area for a family? I am considering buying a place down there, but I want to know the best locations. Thanks.

Shireiqiang,
I know that I just chatted with you about this in PM, but I will give a little answer here just in case anyone else wants to know. In my opinion, it is a good idea to live close to the school, at least for your first 2 years. After that, you will be all over for rotations and clerkships, so that might not be so important then. There are a few people in our program that live significant distances away, about an hour drive each way, and I know that in talking with them it is a less than ideal situation for school. Surprise isn't quite that far away, but it is still a good 30 minutes each way, depending on how you time it with traffic. The area around the school is a nice area, but it is fairly expensive to live in. We have several students that live in North Glendale or North Phoenix, and I think that if I were to buy a house here, that is where we would end up. Everyone has their own opinion about where is best to live, but I think that living close (within 10-15 minutes) is the best way to go. There are some other AZPod folks on here, so hopefully they can give their opinion.

Thanks for the input ldsrmdude.

I was about to post a question like this myself, but Shireiqiang beat me to it. My wife and I aren't sure yet about renting or buying, but we're looking at our options. Any other input that AZpod students have would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys-
I'm one of those AZPOD students who lives further away from campus, although I'm only about 20-25 minutes away. I live northeast of campus in Cave Creek, right on the border of North Phoenix and North Scottsdale. We found a great deal on a house out here and just couldn't pass it up. I personally like living a little bit further away from campus because it helps me separate home from school. We have great access to all the different shopping areas and restaurants in North Scottsdale so we can go out every once in awhile. I will admit that there are days where I dread driving to campus or I'll get stuck on campus for a few hours when we have a longer break since I don't live right across the street, but you can always use that time to study. The biggest benefit to where I live is the great access to freeways. I start rotations next year and you can drive pretty much anywhere in the valley from my location without hitting major traffic. I even go against traffic every morning on my way to school. I hope this helps. I would be happy to answer any other questions too.
