Hi Guys,
I hope you are all doing well. I have a question about electives in regard to experience for an IMG. Basically, I'm in a bit of a pickle because I want to match pediatrics, but unfortunately at my Uni Pediatrics is not considered a "core" block, so by a stroke of bad luck I don't rotate to pediatrics until after my elective period.
Therefore, applying for pediatric electives without having completed my pediatrics core rotation is proving challenging. However, we do complete our neonatology term with OBGYN block, so I will have completed that teaching. Thus, some universities have agreed to take me for a NICU elective. Which is awesome because I love NICU.
By big question though is wether or not doing a NICU elective will help with my application in the match as much as doing a general pediatrics would?
Or am I better on rotating to emergency med, critical care or internal med?
Thank you so much! 🙂
