NIDDK Summer Fellowship

Has anyone heard back yet for the NIDDK summer fellowship program for medical students? (I'm asking about the larger NIH one with 16 sites, not the Joslin or Vandy specific ones. i know we are supposed to hear back by 3/15/10 but if we haven't heard by now, does that mean we're probably not getting in? (in other words, do they have a rolling admission process and send out acceptances in batches until everything is filled with confirmed acceptances or do they release all the acceptances at once?). personally, i find the latter more likely since they have to match everyone based on applicant site rankings after hearing back who got in from each program site. I know for a fact that the joslin program has sent out their acceptances but they were a separate program. thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat...still waiting to hear back. For some reason I thought we were supposed to hear back today...needless to say, I was a little panicky until I checked the website and found out otherwise. Good luck!

does anyone know how competitive this program is? i know the MSKCC one is extremely competitive i just wasnt sure if all of these national programs are on that level.

I received a spot at Michigan and am fairly sure I am going to take it. I also need a change of scenery from my home university (North Dakota). I have a friend that has not heard back yet, but I am sure they are just running a wait list system expecting some people to take other opportunities.

I know a couple people who applied to Washington/UCLA and haven't heard back so maybe it depends on the school. Not sure how competitive the program is though

Same here. Still waiting. Looks like the one person who did hear back already was set to go to Michigan, though. None of my top choices were there.

SO...either we're all getting rejection letters, or maybe most sites haven't made their final decisions yet. I'm hoping for the latter....

Really? They already had an extra 2 weeks.... Is there a better ETA on this? Id really like to know if I need to start hunting for other grant opportunities.

I also called and the lady told me that if we had not heard anything yet, it would be very unlikely that we got matched.. bummer

So it seems that the reason why they are holding off to send us final decisions is because they got some last minute cancellations and are filling up those few slots from their waitlist.

hmm she had told me that some centers hadn't even gotten back to her... but i didnt give her any of my info, she was just generally saying that... maybe she did mean about waitlists... who knows...

To everyone waiting, they finally sent out a notification (rejection) today - since I turned down my slot, I got a rejection e-mail (haha) - it was really competitive, I was surprised, but it might have also depended on what center you applied to
