NMR and IR SPEC

HI guys!

I was just wondering if you guys are memorizing all the peaks in IR spec for every group, or if there is an easier way to know all the variations? Also in NMR I think I have the HNMR down but what do we need to know about the CNMR? I am not really sure how that works??

yea, wat do we need to know for CNMR guys? yea I think we just have to memorize the peaks for IR..one thing that helps me situate them in my mind is that the more polar the bond, the larger the frequency.

like O-H (3100-3500) is more polar than C=O (~1700).
 
i feel you should memorize all the major groups. i.e. alkene alkyne alcohol ketone.....
but then again if you guys dont want a thirty just go the beach and take the day off

I would say..memorize the O-H (broad peak >3000), N-H (sharp peak >3000), and the carbonyl (sharp peak 1700). If you get those, you got the majority...ketone, alcohol, acid (the carbonyl would be a bit higher), amides or amines, aldehyde 👍
