"No acceptance yet" SDNers

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
went out to the mailbox....SLOWLY opened it...with one eye open, one eye shut tight.....junk mail, town water bill, car insurance bill, NOTHING ELSE...today is the six week mark since an interview that ended with "you will be hearing from us in six weeks"...I know I can't hold them to the day, (hope springs eternal???)good luck to all of us....I'm seeing an analogy here..purgatory!

With all of these new threads about people getting accepted, I get so excited. Although the pathetic part about it is that I fantasize about one day starting my own "I got accepted" thread, and all day I long I think about what I would call it.

One day.....

🙁

Quoting you Foxy:

"Hay que tener mucha paciencia en este proceso."

Your acceptance will come you just need to be patient.

Bumping this guy up. Unfortunately, still a member. Anyone else starting to get worried?

This may be a topic for its own thread, but does anyone know someone who had lots of wait lists but no acceptances. I am scared that I am going to be put on six or seven wait lists, which means more waiting. Sounds like hell to me!

I have two waitlist.....one I heard, from the dean, rarely moves (maybe 5-7 people get yanked off) the other one moves and I was told that in previous years students with my ranking were pulled off. I have one more interview coming up, so maybe that will be the ice breaker I need. I really don't want to get stuck in waitlist/alternate list land.

I'm in the club. I hate that living on campus, mail comes anytime between 9 or 9:30 and 3:30, which means checking mail a zillion times a day. I think my friends all think I'm crazy, but each morning I wake up thinking, maybe today, so I just have to keep checking...

Mellow what schools are you talking about; one that rarely moves and the other that moves quite a bit?

i'm diving right into this little exclusive club...7 interviews, but still no love...i just wanna be loved, is that so wrong??

2 rejections, 1 maybe, and 1 that I have heard NOTHING from!

Hola mis amigitos, todavia estoy aqui 🙁

Although I don't plan on hearing anything for a while because 66.7% of my interviews are still in the future. Bring on the wait lists, I'm ready!

We will still get in! No worries 🙂

Si amigos! todavia hay muchas esperanza
I am trying to cheer myself up by cheering you up....no acceptances no rejects, no waitlists yet for me boooooohooooooo
Did I really cheer you up??????????

I've gone on 3 interviews and placed on 2 waitlists, maybe 3 after the 15th comes about.

a mi, 4 interviews and nothing yet!

I feel your pain Drew. 7 interviews for me and no love so far. There's still hope.

Has anyone ever asked a school after a pre-interview rejection why they got rejected? I have solid stats so I'm worried that there may be something else wrong with my app...recs, ECS, PS? Do you think they'd let me know why I got rejected?

abefroman, if you have solid stats, you should definitely give them a call to see where you could improve. But don't worry, cuz ur gettin in!

I'm definately part of this club. My first interview isn't even for another week and a half. Looks like I'll be a part of this club for good while.

Good Luck Dr. Will. An interview is an interview no matter where or when it comes. I've only had one interview this cycle and it was back in dec. As many say on this forum 'it only takes one'. 🙂

Foxy: From your mouth to the adcom's ears. Good luck to everyone on this list. The thought of doing this all over again next year is not pleasant right now.

5 interviews down and 1 to go.
1 waitlist.
NO ACCEPTANCES. 😕

Applied late because of AMCAS and mono.

1 interview at Pitt (no reply), interview scheduled at Colorado, rejected pre-secondary at UCSD, waiting to hear from UCSF and Albert Einstein.

I just found the SND site a few days ago and have pretty much done nothing but read it ever since. I am addicted! From what I understand there is still hope to get in this cycle. At least that's what I keep telling myself. 🙂

Welcome new SDN members! 😀

Here's my update: 2 interviews down, 4 to go, haven't heard a THING yet post interview (ok 1 was last week  )

Good luck everyone! There is still hope to get in! We don't have to REALLY start worrying til July 🙂 (well maybe I'm too optimistic, worrying is still ok)

I can't believe this thread was started in Jan! That seems like so long ago, sigh.

Add me to the club! I hope we get some good news soon!

I'm with you guys too...

4 interviews down, 1 more to go.
2 waitlists. No acceptances.

Keep your head up guys!

Mellow, what two schools were you talking about that you have been waitlisted by, and which was the one that only accepts 5-7 and the other one where there is considerable movement.

•Mellow, what two schools were you talking about that you have been waitlisted by, and which was the one that only accepts 5-7 and the other one where there is considerable movement.•••••I was waitlisted at UMDNJ-NJMS and RWJ. The waitlist movement at RWJ is pretty great as said by the secretary. I wrote to the dean at NJMS who emailed me back saying in the past two years their waitlist hasn't really seen much movement and to try retaking the MCATs to improve my chances. 😡 😛

I've been rejected pre-interview to A LOT of schools, and am only just starting to receive invitations for interviews.

I have 15 or so rejection letters, 2 interview invites, and am still waiting to hear from 12 more schools (yeah, I'm one of those shotgun folks 😛 ).

But, hey! My whole view on this is that if they haven't rejected you at this point, it means that somehow, someone on the committee actually likes you and wants to keep you in their applicant pool. It's a comforting thought. My MCAT score isn't too hot, so I feel really blessed to even get interview invites. For those of us still waiting, just get those interviews and then maybe we can really show them how much hard work and tenacity we have. Ya? 🙂

Hey all
I am still here. This is my second time posting on this thread. I have been waiting and waiting. The stats so far-6inv 3waitlist the other 3 still waiting for a post interview response. 😡 😡 😡
Good luck everybody.

I just want to make sure all of you remain hopeful! I applied last year and was placed on four waitlists (at pretty good medical school institutions). I waited all summer long for a response and did not hear anything. Persistent, I decided to apply again (in July 2001 for the 2002 Entering Class) and this year things are much different. I have been accepted to very prestigious schools. In fact, I am glad things did not work out last year. Although I would have been happy to go *anywhere*, my standards are much higher this year and things have worked out even better than I could have ever imagined. So, please do not dismay. If things work out this year, then great! If not, I assure you things will be better in the following years (if you decide to apply again and improve your application). I AM EVIDENCE!

I think applying a second time (or even a third) can be used to your advantage during the course of your interviews as well as in your essays! Use it because I am sure it could be a deciding factor between two applicants with all other things being equal.

California, what things did you do to improve your application, and did you contact schools to ask them what was lacking in your application?

•California, what things did you do to improve your application, and did you contact schools to ask them what was lacking in your application?•••••In response to you question Sng33, I did the following things the second time I applied in order to improve my application and ensure my acceptance:

(1) Before submitting my AMCAS application again, I personally met with an Admissions Counselor at a medical school close to where I live. She looked over my application and told me, "You will be accepted to medical school next year." In addition, she suggested I write my essays a little different when I apply again. This was a bull**** answer; she had no real reason. So, I spoke to Admissions Counselors at other medical schools, especially the schools that waitlisted me, as well as anyone else who had insight on the medical school application process.

(2) I made sure to apply early and submit all of my secondary applications as soon as possible. The first time I applied I took the MCAT in August and was literally turning in my supplementary applications the day before the various deadlines. This is no good. In regards to my secondary applications, I took the time to re-write almost all of them and improve them.

(3) I began shadowing a physician who worked in an area I was interested in. I had a lot of research experience in this area as well general clincial experience the first time I applied, but none directly with this specific field--the field I was interested in. I talked about this *experience* extensively in my essays, which I think clearly demonstrated to various Admission Committees that I knew the realities of medicine.
(4) I began working fulltime in a reserach center, where I spent the past three summers during my undergraduate education. I did *real* research and will publish a paper soon. (NOTE: You do not have to publish a research paper to be accepted to medical school.)

(5) During my interviews the second time I applied, I made sure to use the fact that I applied a year ago to my advantage. I think it really demonstrated my persistence and dedication to medicine.

In sum, I think if you are applying for a second or third time you have to make sure you address your weaknesses. If you have low grades, you need to do a post-bac program. If you have a low MCAT, you have to take it again AND improve. If you have little or no clinical experience, you have to get some. The point is: show improvement and address your weaknesses. 😀

Well it's sad, I had 3 interviews, 1 waitlist... no acceptances. It's still early so I am hopeful...

Hey you guys,
Looking back what would you have done differently? Any regrets?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by NRAI2001:
•Hey you guys,

I'm with you Doctora Foxy. Any one of those two suggestions would have made this cycle less stressful for me. Probably would have seen better results from some of the schools I applied to.

california,

what are these prestigious schools that you have been accepted to this year? I would really appreciate it if you can share this info.

I am joining this club. I will probably be here for awhile but hopefully not too long.

Good luck to all of you.

NRAI2001, If I could do anything different, I would get some hospital and volunteer/leadership experiences. That definately killed my application, 'cause my scores were great. I guess I have to do the normal pre-med B.S. and do something I really don't want to (volunteer changing bed pans at the hospital or giving directions/filling forms in the local health clinic). Anyway - get some experience. I did not get in (well not yet, anyway), and thats the only part of my app that is hurting.

have faith folks 🙂 . I am in purgatory too! We just have to keep hope up.

tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock...

Should have applied to more schools! And should have applied earlier. Maybe I should have studied hardier as an undergrad...ate a better breakfast before I took the MCAT...

Seriously, good advice california...very important to show that you know what your weaknesses are and to address them in the off year.

me ke aloha pumehana

Ok people, it's March 30th. For those of you who are not in anywhere yet, what are your immediate plans? And I'm especially talking to those with low mcat scores who need to retake (possibly).

I know that we will still possibly get in off waitlists, but what are you doing just in case? I'm still optimistic but I have to be realistic too and be prepared for the worst. When will you start studying for the August MCAT if you plan to retake it to get in next cycle? Are you giving med schools up til a certain date to accept you, and then you'll start studying?

Here's my situation:
*3 interviews done--still waiting to hear post-interview responses
*3 interviews will happen next week
*no acceptances yet
*MCAT score 27P (9,9,9)
*will graduate May 26th, but finished early May and all the Kaplan materials are in my school's library (I think that's when I'll start studying)

Any advice for me? (hypothetically saying I don't get int this cycle)

and what do you guys think about 6 wait lists? good chance or iffy?

I am perfectly fine with studying for the mcat all summer and getting in off a wait list in late July---better safe than sorry 🙂

DF, like I've told you before sooooooo many times. With 6 interviews, you are bound to get in somewhere. You still have 3 to go! I'll bet at least one of those will be an immediate acceptance. You haven't even heard back from the three you've been on! Cmon! Don't get so worried just yet. 😀

Hey Foxy, why don't you start a thread on what your doing to get off the waitlist. I've started enough of those things. I'll add what I've done once somebody starts one.

Foxy-
I have to agree with imtiaz. If you have 6 interviews then you're bound to get at least 1 acceptance. Be sure to contact schools after you interview to show them that you're very interested in going to their school.
But if things don't work out this cycle you'll be fine for the August MCAT if you start studying right after you graduate. If you just took the test then you aren't starting from scratch, so another 3+ months of studying on top of what you've already done will put you in good shape.

Foxy, I have to agree with the others that you should definitely get in with the number of waitlists you're on. But set a date for when to start studying, just in case. Is there anything else in your application that you think is kinda iffy? If so, concentrate on that for the upcoming year. I'm going to hold out until June 2 and if I'm not in by then, I'm going to reapply.

I'm in the club too... 4 interviews, no acceptances yet. The only thing missing from my app is extensive clinical experience so I'm going to do a lot of that this summer and maybe through next year if I don't get in. Come to think of it a year off wouldn't be too bad...

Good luck all! I'm sure I will be back to this thread a lot *sigh* 🙄
