Asking for my son who is a pre-pharm student.
I'm trying to understand the order of application, pre-pharm course requisites and PCAT test taking. looking toward fall 2017 PharmD college admission. Spring of 2017 two years of pre-pharm will be complete. Am I correct in thinking that the PCAT's shouldn't be taken before spring 2017 classes are completed? Micro-Bio, Chem, Bio are all in his spring of 2017 schedule. Yet it seems like the application process requires PCAT's. I'm really confused.

Generally it is recommended to take the PCAT after taking at least Biology 1&2, General Chem 1&2 and even organic chemistry. Microbiology helps too. But if you're trying to gain admission for this PharmCas cycle, most schools require you to take the PCAT no later than the October/November testing block (the last date is tomorrow 11/4). The next testing block won't be until January, and some schools won't accept it taken that late. Be sure to check on the requirements of the schools, you can either go to their school website directly, sometimes the information on PharmCas school directory is accurate. UNLESS he is planning on applying to California schools and a small handful of schools that DO NOT require the PCAT, than he is fine. Check the school deadlines too, some have already expired 11/1. Next wave is 12/1, so check! PharmCas application review are already underway, once you hit late November to December, the verification of GPAs might take the full 4-6 weeks.

Does require pcat, however it is most recommended to take pcat after most science pre-reqs are complete as there will be micro bio, ochem, etc..

Also beneficial to have experience (i.e. PTCB, pharmacy technician license ..etc)
