Hi everyone,

So I hope i'm not double posting (couldn't find replies to threads regarding this issue).

How does MTB compare to SUTM for step 2. I know FA is just different all together, but it looks like MTB tells you next steps/accurate tests etc (stuff that's in SUTM but lost among the text!).

MTB seems like it is SUTM, but less dense. Other option was deja review to hit home the big points (concise and too the point for a good review)

Any thoughts?😕

I do have the same question, and thank you as you brought that up.

plus i saw people using MTB 3 instead of MTB 2.... ?
I agree the lenght makes it unrealistic-
...thoughts about DIT?
:luck:

I started out with first aid for ck and now using MTB for step 3 to study for the ck. here are few facts.
- MTB for Step 2 is not available yet. it is not published yet
- people say MTB has allot of errors. I read the whole book and havent noticed that many
- MTB is best at teaching you what is the next step in the management of this patient?

I still believe FA for step 2 ck is highly underrated, but the treatment/management of each disorder is not well organized.

Thanks to all for the replies.

Commander, did you feel MTB had all the SUTM info. I like SUTM but its long and I feel myself forgetting the details, though I understand them well and the book is well explained.

FA seems really really superficial to me (as much as crush) to the point that I don't really find UW questions in FA when I go to look them up, but do find them in SUTM.

I take it you still rec FA with MTB?

And it is.That's why I am actually not considering FA at all. I am wondering between MTB and SUTM. Some people said, you can use MTB mainly and refer to STUM for more explanation; like making notes in MTB from SUTM for things that are vague. The key is to make a comprehensive review book for you so you can read from one source few days before the exam, not to glance here and there.

Which is what is the exam is all about.

I agree with that.

I finished reading SUTM once during my IM core more than a year ago, and I just finished reading it the 2nd time along supplemented with kaplan + UW Qbanks. It's a LONG read (took me 5-7 hours for EACH subject) but I think it's well worth it. However though, if you think you've mastered the subjects you could find MTB3 a much easier read (I have FA, SUTM and MTB3). MTB3 points out DX and TX on a step by step basis but it lacks a lot of the pathophys SUTM covers, but if you could highlight and mark the ORDER of the DX and TX on SUTM from the order MTB3 shows you, that would be ideal.

I was deciding whether to read the entire SUTM or watch the kaplan vids and annotate into MTB3 (as pointed out on my thread that nobody responded lol), but made my mind sticking to SUTM. Kaplan vids are a lot easier to watch, as well as more enjoyable, but I think if you were to spend the same amount of time reading SUTM you would get more out of it. Because in the end... there's no easy way out, and more pain... HOPEFULLY is more gain 🙂

I have come to the same decision. I find it useful reading SUTM and though it's a lot at times, when you do UW and get a q right or wrong for that matter and re-look it up in SUTM, it really sticks and makes the texgt more practical.

I am with you on the 7 hours a chapter, painful to admit...

So you would use step up to medicine or step up to step 2?

I may just do step up to step 2 AND step up med (since i need something else for the non-med subjects).

i keep trying to give FA a chance since it seems to have held its place on sdn and people love it, but i seem to be looking up things from FA online or in other books, bc they don's seem to always have the info. I look up world questions in FA, and still would not have gotten them right with FA open in front of me at times, it's 50/50.

but that's just my oppinion, so i will stop bashing FA.
