General dentists who don't do the 1 year are still credentialed to do most common procedures. Now what you are credentialed to do and what you are able to do are two different things. Depends how many specialists are at your base and how busy they are and how busy the clinic is.
Things you may not be able to do are third molars, molar endo, perio surgeries, restore implants. That said if you show interest in applying for a residency or just tell the specialists you would like to learn more, the good ones will give you some help. Again it depends on how busy the clinic is and if you have time to spare.
