Hey guys! Okay so I have a 3.5 overall and 3.37 science gpa with an AA of 20 and TS 19 and PAT 20. I have been rejected from 8 schools...still waiting to hear from 7. I went to community college and therefore a lot of my prereq's were done there. I was planning on e-mailing schools and asking them what I should work on; has anyone done this? Do they give you generic responses or actually tell you what to work on? I think there's a couple of reasons why I haven't gotten interviews:
1. My GPA dropped when I transferred to UCLA
2. My 17 in Bio on the DAT

Input? Do these sound like reasonable assumptions?

if you are a bio major, then a 17 BIO is an issue. also , how drastically did your gpa drop? what was your science gpa before UCLA, and how were your grades at UCLA? How many classes you take at the CC, UCLA?

Every school may have different reasons depending on what they view being most valuable in applicants. I would call or email each school but let them know that you are interested in their school and would like their feedback on what you can do during this next year to become a better applicant. I agree with bing12 though.

Yeah, schools look more than just your GPA, they look at how hard the load was, what kinds of science classes you took, where you took them, and with transferring from CC to a 4 year, you bet they will look at how the transition was.

If your science GPA is a 3.37, which is pretty good, and that was from getting mostly As in CC but getting all Bs and Cs at the 4 year, then that is a huge red flag.

Definitely call or email schools and ask how to improve your application - I did that last summer around May-June. The only issue about asking now, is that they are swamped with applications etc that they may not have as much time or interest to go through your specific application and tell you how to improve...Adcoms are usually more helpful post-interview time! But I say give it a shot for sure...

What science courses did you take at CC? I had a 19AA, 17 on Bio, and 3.5. My major was also Biology. I only took bio at cc. I aced a lot of science courses at my state univ. I've been accepted to a school and landed a few interviews. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to retake the DAT and get the biology up. I feel like I would have landed quite a few more interviews with a better score. But there's other options too. If your DAT doesn't shine make your personal statement shine. Do some great volunteer work. ASDOH loves students with mega volunteer time (1000 hours I think???). If you're white with average stats you really have to find a way to stand out and there are tons of ways to do that! Be creative

I'm a psychobiology major at UCLA. but my gpa did drop quite a bit...i went from a 3.6 at CC to a 3.1 at UCLA. I took gen chem and ochem at community and some bio, I took the rest of my bio and physics at UCLA. I mean...I got B's in community too and I got B's at UCLA as well except for one C+ in a quarter of physics.. I've only been at UCLA for one year..but I'm really going to work on bringing up my gpa this year so I can reapply with a solid application

Yeah I've only been at my 4 year university for one year so this year im going to work hard to do well in all my classes...I'm not white, I'm indian but that doesn't help my case either. Thanks for all the help guys! I will definitely contact schools...
