No Interviews Yet...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just keep your head up. All you can do is improve from here on out. Get As in the 3 classes you are taking now. Plan on taking more classes next semester to continue to raise your science GPA.

#1 - Don't worry about how everyone else is doing or how many interviews they have. Focus on improving yourself.

#2 - If you want the nerves to go down STAY AWAY from SDN. This place does some crazy stuff to the minds of pre-dental students. Use the time that you spend on SDN to volunteer, study, or improve other weaknesses in your application.

#3 - Don't give up! There is still time to receive interviews. I had a friend receive an interview in the spring of last year around march. 2 weeks later he went to the interview. 3 days later he was accepted. No telling what is going to happen.

GOOD LUCK! 👍

thank you so much for the positive words!!! I actually have been away from SDN for a month or so which I'm pretty proud of myself for, however like I said I'm starting to get really nervous. I have friends who applied to med school who have the same GPA as me and lower MCAT scores and are getting acceptance letters already 🙁
I thought you would be able to see my gpa and DAT but here they are :

19TS/20AA/23PAT

ogpa:3.2, sgpa:3.0, nsgpa:3.6

I think you should retake the DAT..a 19TS and low sGPA makes you appear weak in the sciences..

People like you an me who have low sgpa and average DAT scores should not expect to get any interviews before this years end. So, hope to hear back from schools around January-March once the "competitive" students decide where they want to go and schools have seats open. Good luck with everything and keep your head up, I'll keep you in my prayers 🙂

im on the same boat....still 0 interviews.. if it makes you guys feel better i have 3.8/3.95 24/22/20... i guess not having much EC really hurts

I think the best thing you can do is get off this website!

You are seeking advice and consolation from a group of equally anxious, borderline manic, applicants.

Remember, the average age of matriculating dental students is NOT 22. It takes many applicants more than one round to get in. This is very normal. You must be prepared with this reality.

Also, there are many other factors that go into the process other than your GPA and DAT scores. Take everything you see on this website with a grain of salt. Just because you see high GPA's or high test scores from another member really means nothing. And without any verification process, anyone can say anything.

As others have said, there are always people who get in late. One of my classmates was interviewed at one school and one school only. The interview was in January. The applicant was wait-listed only to be offered admission one week before orientation.

Don't stress and don't panic.

I'm in the same boat too! Its stressful but if you spend too much time on the forums youll really stress yourself out...Hoping for interviews early in 2012.

Great advice. I've had a few interviews but despite that I still get self conscious seeing people with 10+. Just focus on something constructive until you get that email. It always comes right when you stop thinking it will.

0 interviews so far. Submitted at the very beginning of september 22/22/20 with a 3.24 GPA 2.98 sGPA EC's and whatnot. 13 schools applied to. Not really worrying about anything until January

The qualify of the application is not a function of the number of school an applicant puts on AADSAS list.

Yowza, how short is your EC list? A one-liner "5 hours shadowing"? I feel for ya. With those stats though, and 0 interviews, there's got to be an obvious red flag somewhere, no?

yea something like that, about 15hrs shadowing and like 40 hours of volunteer work. i am doing a RDH degree at the same time though, too bad when I was filling out the apps i haven't racked up much clinic hours yet so i couldn't write them down 🙁

Submitted in July, GPA: 3.80/3.77, DAT 22/22/24
applied to 15 schools. No interviews anywhere else other than my 2 state schools. I'm just as worried as you.
My extracurricular activities are good. I think my (not strong enough) letters hurt my chance.

i think my letters weren't that great too since i barely knew the professors/dentist who wrote them. but at least you got in state school, good luck on those.

Forgetting about everyone's dreams for a moment...but christ, just from a financial standpoint-- applying to 15-20+ schools and getting nothing for it must be a real kick to the gut. I applied to 7 and that cost something like a grand...

That said, it's still early. Despite what people around here might say. So I wouldn't panic yet. And, unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it now anyways.

At this point of the application cycle, not receiving interviews means that my application is not strong, given that my application sent out date was pretty early (July). I'm sure most schools has reviewed my application since it has been under review for 3+ months. It's just depressing.

good luck to all of those. its nerve wrecking seeing people with 10+ interviews and my refresh button keyboard is close to point of malfunctioning from me checking email/SDN every half an hour or so and not getting any interviews 🙁

The only red flags that I can think of are the letters of recommendation. I think one or two of my letters are not strong (even though I had two strong ones). I'm really curious otherwise.
I don't see any chance for pre-december interviews now. I hope I will hear back from schools soon for post-december interviews. same to you!

I know two guys that only got one interview (and it was after dec 1) but they got in and are on their way to becoming dentists. So don't give up hope!

I am in the same boat too except all apps and secondaries were done by first week of september with a lower DAT. I have a 19 DAT and 3.85 GPA, applied 10 schools- heard nothing so far 0 interviews including state school. I have good ECs, research experience, dentist shadowing> 200 hours I am also anxious and hoping to hear for some post-dec. I just dont know what holding it back.

well that gives some hope! I know that happens to people but I just hope that I get the shot at one school too! I pray that one school looks beyond my stats and can see that I am an applicant who is really determined and dedicated to becoming a dentist!

ya I always worry about my LORs too b/c you just don't know what they wrote :/ I mean I feel as if I knew them very well and they knew me and they were nice enough people i just hope they were good writers 😛

i also know everyone says they get the interviews when they least expect it but there have been days where I don't even check my email until 10 PM and I think "oh maybe this is the day b/c I have been so busy doing other things and not focused on interviews.." but it never happens 🙁

Awww I know exactly how you feel! "Maybe if I don't check my e-mail for a few hours there will be an interview e-mail waiting to be opened." :xf: Stay positive and good luck!

Keep your head up man. The worst thing a man can do is give up. It anit over til the fat lady sings.

Like everyone says, get off this website. Also, have a backup plan ready in case you don't get into dental school... so that you're not screwed.

thank you everyone for the help/stories! I'm still very nervous..its been at an all time high this past week. I wasn't really too nervous/worried before this but this week its just through the roof...I can't stop thinking about apps and interviews. I believe I have SO MUCH to offer to a school...I just want someone to see this in my application 🙁 I am so jealous of all you guys that have interviews but also proud for each and everyone! You all have worked hard to get there! I just know that I have worked hard as well and don't think my GPA really indicates that hard work at all. 🙁

The BEST thing you can do is: stop going on SDN!!!
Last week, I was helping organize a conference for one of my organizations and for a few days, I totally forgot about SDN... best (as in least stressful) week ever! haha.

Good luck to you!! I'm sure things will turn around soon.

So its now November and I'm really bummed. I knew I would have a hard time this cycle but deep down I still hoped that maybe it would work out and I would get some interviews or even at least one! I applied to 28 schools because I really really want to get in! My stats are down below and I know they are subpar, espeically b/c my BCP is 2.85 but I have a very strong upward trend and good reason for struggling my first year in undergrad. My undergrad school is also in the Top 40 nationwide. I have a variety of extracurrics, good dental experience, and I think my personal statement was true to me.

Anyways, I know no one can really tell me anything but to wait however I am really starting to freak out. I thought I would at least get a chance somewhere. Btw, I am also taking three classes right now to raise my gpa in case I have to reapply and doing well in all three right now. :xf: Also I'm not a URM 🙁

Who else still has no interviews?
What advice/uplifting words do you guys have? or experience?

My DAT is slightly lower and higher than yours in some area, but my gpa is lower than yours. I got invited to 1 interview so far, but it is in the spring. With a lot of dental experience and EC's, I'm sure DS will see that.

I'm not a URM either. It is a bit upsetting sometimes, because people within my program have lower stats than me and they're getting invites from all over the places. A friend of mine said, as long as we're still under review, we're still in the run for getting invited. So let's all try to keep our spirit up! It will be our turn eventually 🙂

I can't advise you to stay away from SDN because I go on every day and check my email constantly LOL.

Yes.

I was on the e-mail stage about a month ago.

I stopped going on SDN because my grades were suffering... I stayed up till 3 AM roaming the forums!

I've stepped up to a new degree of obsession now.

What is my homepage, you may ask?

does applying again next year (and the one after if needed [gulp]) until i get in considered a backup plan? :smack:

I was thinking maybe applying for a job. If you're a science major, then maybe Research Assistant/Technician. Because if you don't get into d-school, this year, it pretty much means that next year you'll have nothing to do other than re-applying. Having a job keeps you pre-occupied and will give you some money (which you can use to pay off the f-ing expensive applications and flights). The dental application process is really annoying/stressful, and if you don't have anything to occupy yourself with, you will go crazy.

Assuming "backup plan" doesn't mean doing something career-wise other than dentistry, then sure. I always think when people say "backup plan" they mean a different career/educational path altogether. Sounds like you're driven and decided for now, keep it up.

Personally I'll just work, travel, read some good books, take a class or two. I'll live my life and be damn grateful for that life every day, regardless of dental school admission.

yea. i was planning on getting a dental hygienist job after i finish the program. I am not in science major since I am doing dental hygiene as my major, so my only option would be trying to get a hygienist job. however, the market for rdh seems to be much smaller now, i rarely see any dentists hiring one 🙁 sometimes i wonder if being a hygienist negatively impact my dental school application.

It shouldn't negatively affect your app. It should help in the sense that you are serious about the profession and know what you're getting yourself into. In fact, I shadowed in the clinics at a nearby dental school and heard firsthand from student doctors that many of their classmates worked as career dental assistants/hygienists before making the switch to dental school.

Not going to read all the posts in this thread, but it's definitely WAAAYYYY too soon to start getting down or giving up on this cycle. There are many schools that haven't even filled up half their class yet. Schools will still interview January through the end of March. Some people won't get their acceptance letter till June or July. Heck, there's even a guy in my class that wasn't accepted till the day before classes started during my first year. Poor guy had to book an overnight flight to make it to class.

So be patient and use this time to make your application stronger for next cycle incase things don't workout as planned. Have hope and stay positive. Feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to help you accomplish your dream. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you!

wow!!!😱 do you mind maybe giving me a little more detail? in terms of what your gpa's are and your DAT scores?? ( i don't want to be personally invasive but really would appreciate it)also where did you get your interview from? this is really inspiring and for someone like me really gives me hope so I want to thank you for sharing your story!

Also, I'm really not on SDN much at all.

All of my DAT scores were in the low and mid range of 20s, except reading & math (both of which were above the avg). My GPA isn't so hot actually LOL, however, I'm performing well in my dental post-bacc program.

I have 800+ hrs with dental experience. I've done a few humanitarian missions, one in which was 3 full months in several countries in Southeast Asia.

I got invited to Case Western so far. I hope to hear back from other schools soon...because just like you, the waiting game is killing me every waking moment...literally. LOL

Best of luck! 🙂

Holy macaroni!!! You're indeed taking this to the next level with the count down. LOL

Btw, I noticed that you got an interview at Western. If you don't mind me asking, when did you finish your secondary and how long was the wait until the invited you? I'm hoping to get back to so-cal 🙂 Thanks!

It just dawned on me that perhaps the quality of applicants is a different animal in this cycle. We all assume the high stat SDNers are a small percentage of the applicant pool. But it seems like there are a ton of 21+ DAT scorers on SDN so maybe there is an inordinate number of these high stats in the app pool and why we aren't getting as many interviews as we anticipate.

I'm not thinking thats the case... The reason is that we know with relative accuracy the size of the applicant pool, and it has not increases THAT much. Plus, the percentiles on the DAT have not really changed much either. I'm just thinking its a finicky beast. Thats all haha 👍

Took it to the extreme. Countdown is now on the top of my desktop thanks to a nice little Mac Widget 😀

I've only had it for one day, and it's already freaking me out. Oh god, I have to delete it...

And, I submitted my AADSAS June 2nd, I think it went out on like the 27th or something (I'd assume first batch...?) as for the secondary, I didn't do it until early August. Got confirmation of review and application completed mid August and I got my interview invite via phone on Sep 1st. Pretty fast

You gave in... great, now you are going to be just another statistic on the pages of those who perished from the SDN disease. So sad... so sad...
