I graduated with a B.S. and I had a really bad GPA unfortunately. (3.07). No science professor is willing to write me a strong LOR. I considered taking one course over the summer so I can get to know one professor and have them write it but the timings just aren't working out. I applied to a masters program and I haven't heard back from them either, but if I were to take a summer course it would conflict with the start date of that program. I can't waste another year, my EC's and DAT are okay at this point (I am retaking my DAT), and I really wanted to get my application in as early as possible. I don't know where to get this LOR from before it's too late in the cycle. My alternative would be (if I didn't get accepted to the masters program) to take more science classes at my undergrad university, and then obtain an LOR. However, it will be very late in the cycle by then! Really need some advice. Thank you in advance!

I hate to say it, but you should really think about taking a year off! I wouldn't want to see you scramble and not apply when you're at you best. That's a lot of money wasted and a lot of disappointment. Only apply when you are most compeditive! A post-bac would be a really good option for you to improve that GPA, take preparatory science classes, and buy some time to get a good LOR. With the application cycle opening in a little over a week, it's a little late to secure a LOR. In the future, give yourself about 8 weeks. Sorry... I realize this is probably not the response you wanted, but I feel it is important to be honest.

I agree with the above comments. Taking a year off to regroup is the best thing in your situation. When you look back 10-15 years from now, that 1 year off will be like nothing.
Why can't you "waste a year" if I may ask? If you do something productive, I wouldn't call it a waste.

I had similar science GPA. Did you do better in any of your science courses?? I had to beg one of my professors to write me a rec ( I got two B+s in his ochem classes ). He refused to write me a letter, saying that I should ask a professor which I got an A in their course so i look outstanding to the admission committees. However, for me B+ was outstanding while compared to a lot of my pre-reqs since i literally got straight Bs in them. I explained this to him, and said i don't need outstanding to get into dental schools while explaining my situation. I had to hassle some to to find a couple to write me letters but I got three. They all felt with me and even though they initially said they wouldn't write me a strong letter, I believe they did. Be genuine. I was admitted into dental school for fall 2016. Even though they might not write you the best letter, it is still worth trying to just find anyone to write you one so that you can fill up that portion of the app and apply this cycle. And to everyone above, no body wants to waste a year of their life just because they need two letters of recs from professors. She is happy with her score, and her GPA isn't absolutely horrible. Find two science professors and give it a shot this cycle.

What do you mean "waste another year"? I personally think another year is exactly what you need. Consider applying next cycle. You'll have time to retake the DAT, bring up your GPA if you choose, and work on getting your EC's above an "okay" level -- and most dental schools expect more than one letter of recommendation from a science professor, so stressing over getting just one won't do you any good.

If there's no options I see your point but this cycle doesn't look too great for her. It's definitely preferable to have an A- or A in a class but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. Congrats on getting in and talking to your teachers though! What dental school did you get into by the way?
