1600 SAT
29 MCAT (11 PS, 10 BS)

F*ING 29 MCAT. F* ME SIX WAYS FROM SUNDAY. WHAT THE F* IS GOING ON HERE. I GOING F*ING CRAZY.

ADD TO THAT AN 8, YES A BLOODY STINKIN 8, ON VERBAL?!?!? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE????? I WAS ROCKING 33+'S COMFORTABLY ON KAPLAN PRACTICE TESTS....FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF* ME. AND AN "O" IN WRITING. ARE YOU F*ING SERIOUS??!?!?!? I WRITE FOR THE F*ING STATE-SYNDICATED PAPER IN SOUTH CAROLINA. F* AAMC, F* THE MCAT, F* BAD BOY AS A RECORD LABEL... NO WAIT, NIX THAT LAST PART.

BTW, I NOW TEACH KAPLAN, SO DONT F*ING TAKE MY CLASS.

It's hard to believe that someone as articulate as you would get an 8 on verbal.

I also got a BS score on my writing section too. All of my professors love the way I write. My writing for bio prof used my essays as examples every single freaking class. I think part of my problem is with handwriting .... I wrote slow so that it would be legible, and therefore didn't get as much written as I'd wanted. If I'd been able to type for the timed test I would have been golden.

Attentionseeker,
Now I know why you f*ked up on verbal. 'Cause you practiced with the kaplan verbal. Trust me, kaplan verbal sucks. You should have tried EK.

i feel you...

-4.0 on all my advanced english compo courses
-considered by many to write well
-felt very comfortable after writing section
-Got a F***'n score of L!!!!

...rest in peace 2PAC

I feel your pain. I was asked to become a writer by two of my liberal arts prof's in college (specifically environmental policy stuff--my minor) and I got an M (half a score IMO). I am positive mine was handwriting and I sent the $50 in to have it rescored.....

Not that it really matters; I've already been accepted by my first choice school..........

You do have a extensive vocabulary....

I agree...EK verbal changed my entire view of verbal. Kaplan and TPR not so good.

I think there is a correlation between SATs and MCAT.

I had an SAT sore of 1520 and MCAT score was (PS-14,Verbal-11, Bio-13, Writing-T). My roomate from last year had an MCAT of 42 and she scored a 1600 on her SATs.

I don't know of comparison studies, but SAT is a good aptitude test, moderately correlated with IQ, and one of the best predicters of at least 1st year college grades.

MCAT is far more of an achievement test (at least Phy, Chm, and Bio), and so wouldn't be expected to correlate too well with SAT. On the other hand, MCAT is a good predictor of performance on USMLE I. Of course, this is stats, correlations between behaviors are seldom perfect, and there are always outliers, so basing an opinion of correlation on anecdotes is just silly.

Same here! And my WS score was completely off compared to my VR score. Good think the WS doesn't really matter...

As for the SAT/MCAT correlation, I don't know the official word on it, but of course anecdotes don't always show the true picture. Still, my scores correlated pretty well.

Well, WS will matter for many schools if it is an outlier (e.g., J,K,S,T), and most int'l schools (for those interested) look at them, often equally weighted with the other scores.

What about the correlation between MCATs and SAT II's?

I really think the SAT II's line up with the question style more than the SAT I's. I would honestly like to see what someone's SAT II sciences scores vs. MCAT scores are.

SAT II literature - 740
SAT II chem - 750
SAT II bio - 760

SAT II writing even had an essay that was scored by two people and given numbers from 1-6 which were then added. Sound familiar?

My practice MCATs were all ~11's in each subject. The %iles are very very close to lining up b/t SAT II's and MCAT (all high 80's to low 90's). SAT II's are also taken by mostly college bound students unlike the SAT I which is taken by everyone. The SAT II's are also tests that you can easily prepare for... more like the MCAT (yes, all standardized tests can be studied for).

This is all speculation, what does anyone else think? I can barely even remember the SAT II's though.... I just know the question format was different.

The SAT IIs were regurgitation tests. If you had taken an AP course for a subject, you will score high on the SATIIs.

AP Chem 5--> SATII Chem 700
AP English Language (not Lit) 5---> SAT II 800
AP US 5---> SATII 760

On the other hand, I think the SATI and the MCAT are similar in that they are both thinking tests. You don't need significant science background in order to do well. It's all about how quickly you can pick up info out of the passages and apply it to what you know. I have known non-science majors at my school to score perfects on both science sections.

Sorry...who cares! it's 1:48 and i should head to bed. Have a good weekend

This same issue has been discussed before....I can't believe it's brought up again....geez 😛

I agree with many of you about the writing skills score. I don't remember my exact letter score, but I seem to remember that it was in the bottom 40th percentile. This seemed a little outrageous to me, because I always got A's in honors english and composition classes, and my verbal scores are always very high on standardized tests. I know that my writing skills are WELL above average. I know that my vocabulary is more extensive than a many of my classmates. Yet, I remember talking to some of my classmates who claimed to have scored very highly on the WS section who could barely string together a logical sentence. I have seen their writing, and it is ABYSMAL. (Complete with poor grammar, poor spelling, and a total inability to communicate ideas.) I guess it doesn't matter now. That's in the distant past.

The bottom line is: Don't take that WS score seriously, because it is a total joke. They must have brain dead monkeys doing the scoring.

MCAT's and SAT's are both b******* what test can possibly demonstrate what you know? Honestly if I scored a 36 on my ACT and a 1600 on my SAT real sweet what does that mean in the general scheme of things? Let's face it the smartest human being on the planet (Hawking) couldn't even take a SAT if it was just handed to him. I don't know maybe I just have a biased opinion against standardized testing (although I scored very well on ACT and SAT) but if you ask any truly intelligent person they will tell you that tests don't mean s***. So, enough with my ranting (which I had a sudden compulsion to do) I say study your ass off but remember a quote from my man Van Wilder "You shouldn't take life to seriously. You'll never get out alive."

This is true...of course, I was talking about non-outlier scores. Mine lies squarely in the "average, nothing special" range.

I just did a quick Yahoo search because I was curious about MCAT/SAT studies, and here's an abstract I found. Take it or leave it..........

Correlates of MCAT Performance in a Postbaccalaureate Population of Premedical Students

George Delahunty, Ph.D.

Abstract ? The purpose of this study was to examine correlations between traditional indicators of academic performance, SAT scores and grade point averages, and MCAT scores in a population of postbaccalaureate premedical students. Data was collected from postbaccalaureate students at Goucher College from the academic years 1990-91 through 1994-95. A strong correlation exists between the total MCAT score and the total SAT score whereas a modest correlation exists between the total MCAT score and the postbaccalaureate GPA. The Physical Sciences and Verbal Reasoning subsection of the MCAT correlated well with the Math and Verbal subsection of the SAT. These data suggest that SAT scores have significant value in helping to identify postbaccalaureate candidates who can be successful medical school applicants.

I wish I had known about EK. Either way, TPR moved my score from 6 to 12. Not bad?

I posted on the other "sat/mcat correlation" that my scores did not match up. Two things I did not add: 1. Didn't do **** for the sat. 2. Took sat 13yrs ago and there has been major, documented sat score inflation.

I think they are similar in most cases.

Hey there
I have a friend who is in med school now, that said he did "bad" on his SAT's(he wont tell the exact number, but let's just say he said he barely got over 1000) Anyways, he got a 35 on his MCAT....anyway for what it is worth, I don't know exactly. I think if someone prepared for the SAT and MCAT and did the same on both then there will be a correlation(possibly) Maybe if someone never picked up an SAT review book in his life and then worked hard for the MCAT, then it does not seem there is one...

would anyone else like to post their stats? 1600 SAT, 42 MCAT (T in writing btw), 5s on all APs (took them all), 800's on all SAT IIs...as you can see the correlation between my test scores is amazing...what a great thread to gloat about all my accomplishments!

sorry to hear about your score OP, guess it was a bad test day...best of luck if you take it again
