don't worry, everything happens for a reason🙂

The real question is, does everything happen for a good reason? When people say this, I think, well of course everything happens for a reason! What you are stating is the law of cause and effect. But how is that supposed to make me feel better? I really don't see the logic behind this, so maybe someone can shed light on this for me 😕

Someone told me the same thing recently, and followed it with, "God has a plan for each of us." I'm not religious, and I definitely am not so sure that that statement is true...but I think that's kind of the message behind the sentiment that "everything happens for a reason"...that there is some kind of greater plan (even if you leave God out of it), some positive purpose for each of us. I will be the first to say that I find these ideas highly doubtful, though of course I hope they are true!

Ah thanks, I get it now. Sorry for getting off track.

Sorry to hear your MD applications haven't worked out. Any particular holes in your application that you might be able to fix with a year off? That's what I'll be asking myself if I get turned down all around. Don't count MD out of your "destiny" just yet. Give God a run for His money, if that is what you really want! Plus, don't loose hope if you got waitlisted...

If I were you I would call any DO schools that took you and tell them you would like to rescind their offer of acceptance and thank them for their time. I wouldn't bother with osteopathic medicine.

There's still lots of time left for interviews, approx 3 months more. Don't give up just yet! If you feel you'll be unhappy as a D.O. then perhaps you should think about taking time off to work on your app and re-apply later. Note, I do not think this is what you should do. You can still be a great doctor if you're D.O. but if you'll be forever miserable without that M.D., then by all means, follow your dreams!

Siorry to hear your troubles. When people apply to DO school as their backup to MD school and then only get accepted by DO schools, they are forever miserable because they don't see the MD behind their name.

That is why I feel either you believe in the DO philosophy or you will not be the best you can be later down the road because your heart is just not into it.

Who knows, maybe you will grow to like it, or maybe you should reconsider applying again to MD schools after you have talked to them about why you were turned down.

You should never look at your acceptances as "only be accepted to DO school" like that is a bad thing. Contrary to popular belief there are 100's of DO applicants that don't get in. They don't take everyone. You have to be qualified.

So be happy with what you have or reapply for what you think you want.

Just my 2 cents.🙂

Seriously, be happy about those DO acceptances...at least you have them. And there's still time for an MD acceptance too. At least you have somewhere to go and can be a doctor no matter what now.

Just be glad you're not in my situation (see the thread "Scared..." to see what I've been dealing with). Yeah, I still have time too myself, but I have no interviews and no acceptances yet cause of my crappy situation.

Dammit, where's StreetPhilosopher when we need him? We need an exposition of the whole "all events are caused" thing. While he's at it, I'd like an explanation of "nature is uniform."

C'mon big guy, stop hiding behind John Rawls' clothing.

Yes it obviously sounds like you want that MD. Well, I have one for sure that I won't need that's a ticket to Temple. I'm selling it on ebay but you know how you have to pay those extra fees. I can sell it to you if you want so you can have that beloved MD title. 😉

hey i know how you feel...nobody wants me too...i only applied to MD schools and only have one interview so far in January. i haven't heard from the 20 schools i sent secondaries too except UC Davis which rejected me. i dunno what the rest of the 19 schools are doing with my application. i figured by this time i'm pretty much rejected already. or is it still too early to say that? =(

Cheer up.. it's too early for you to be throwing in the towel now. I didnt' get my first interview until January and i didn't get my first acceptance til May last year. There is DEFINITELY still time. And I applied to 30 schools by the way. 🙂

Hey, I totally know what you're saying, but don't you think that's a bit rough. I mean, DO is a good deal, you get to do pretty much everything an MD gets to do, so I'm sure lots of people apply to both MD and DO schools. I personally know a few kids who believed in the DO theory, and only applied to DO schools, but i think they were the exception rather than the rule. Until DO schools make their admissions criteria as hard or harder than the average MD school, you shouldn't make fun of this poor guy. I'm sure all he wants to do is become a doctor, MD or DO, and help people.

Hold your head up, you were accepted into DO school, something you edged out many others for. You will become an excellent physician.

hey sharsky,
i understand. one interview. rejection from davis. same boat. despite all those acceptances already out there, i'm sure there are a lot more to spread around the next few months.
enjoy your christmas & keep the faith.

When the number 4 rated school turning out clinicians is a DO school (Mich State COM), I think you have nothing to worry about becoming a DO. In a few years, DO will carry the same weight as MD (it should, and often does, already). As the proportion of DO/MD increases, this will become even more rapid. Don't worry about it; just get out there and become a great physician.

Choose based on your personal philosophy. I looked at alot of DO schools, but in the end, I'm more suited to the allopathic approach. It takes diffr'nt strokes, ect...
