Does everyone doing pathology generally have some sort of research project going on the side or can one practice pathology with absolutely no intention of doing research? Just curious.

You can practice and do residency without a lick of interest in research. Problem is, a lot of residents feel pressure to do some projects to pad the old CV. It's probably good to do some research but you could go through residency, do no research and get a good private practice job. So it's basically up to you. Also, different programs place different emphasis on research; my program doesn't pressure you to do projects but there are tons of opportunities if you want them. Other places will expect some research to be done.
