No UCLA interview yet with fairly strong app?

Are there any folks out there with a fairly strong app who haven't received an interview from UCLA yet? I know it's a great school and not everyone gets interviews but I just thought I'd see if theres anyone else out there also a bit confused/anxious. thanks

I wouldn't say that I have a killer app, so it's not like I'm expecting an interview at every school I applied to, but the silence from 11 out of my 13 schools is deafening. UCLA is just one in the crowd.

I'm waiting on UCLA as well. I called them today cuz I'm flying out West for Stanford, and they told me that "I'm still under review," which I was also in December. My app is not killer by any means, but I've gotten a fair amount of good interviews, so I dunno how UCLA is perceiving me.

All I know is they better tell me soon RE: reject or interview 😉 .... I want to finalize my travel plans, LOL.

I'm not sure how strong of an applicant I am, but I have had interviews at several top tier schools. My app at UCLA was complete mid-Sept. and I haven't heard anything from them yet. I wonder if being an out of state applicant makes getting an interview less probable.

i haven't really heard anything either, and it's drivingme crazy....i'm not sure if i have a strong app, i like to think it's not too bad, pm me if you want to know.....but i hate getting snubbed by them...my alma mater....

Finally, got that elusive UCLA interview yesterday. I was complete in November and the weird fact is that i received a personal call from the admissions office to let me know about the good news and scheduled the interview 3 days later. Whoa! keep your heads up fellows, the next couple of days should bring some good news.

Don't say I'm spreading rumors but this is what I heard:

UCLA doesn't necessarily first review files that were completed earlier. Who got reviewed first was sorta random.

Again it may be a myth

it is true. the admissions lady actually told me this straight up when i asked her if it was normal that i had been complete since the end of august but not reviewed until november. she said that they randomly select files to be reviewed. then again, they do not start accepting until mid-january so i guess they are thinking that by then they will have gone through all of the files at least once. they are only rolling after january 15th. o, and the other thing is that they do not give their reviewers a deadline for returning the files... so basically, according to her, i was reviewed once early october and put on hold. my file was again picked up for review early december, but at that point since it was before the holidays and there is no deadline for reviewing the file, she expected that i would not hear again until mid-to-late jan. when i called yesterday, the file still had not come back. i think i have a pretty decent app, and ucla is my #1 choice so this waiting is killing me 🙁 i've pretty much given up hope. also, rejections pre-int will be sent out by the end of this month as well.

i heard the same exact thing from the admissions lady when I called.....files are reviewed in random order..my reviewer hadnt gotten the file back yet....it just seems like a weird way to do things but I guess at this point, im hoping its true and not really reflective of the strength of my app.....heres to hoping...

i haven't even gotten a secondary from them yet... do you guys think this mean i'm rejected? has ANYONE recieved a ucla rejection yet or am i actually in limbo presecondary? im guessing theyre just being late sending rejections but then is it possible that they just havent gotten to screening for all secondaries yet? its sooo random.

From my experience, their schedule for out-of-staters is usually slower than that for Cali residents. However, I feel that the pre-interview app review doesn't seem to work the same way. I'm an international applicant and I heard back fairly quickly.

my friend was instate last year and he didnt hear anything from them presecondary after the break and when break ended he ended up getting a rejection from them. so i dont think its a good sign that you didnt get anything so far. but who knows. his was just one instance.

and just to add to the uncertainty i knew someone last year who got a secondary in late Feb. so i have no idea. i haven't gotten a secondary either and i think if it doesn't come very soon it is probably a rejection.

One of my friends got rejected right after she turned in her secondary.

Your application couldn't be that bad, I thought mine was pretty decent, and I got rejected pre-secondary from Stanford. This makes me 0-2 with them, because they were also the only school to reject me for undergrad.

Hey somekevinguy,

I got an invite on 1/29 (checking the online status). Rather than waiting for the letter to confirm this, I called to confirm that they didn't make a mistake in giving me an interview. The administrator there (she was really nice!) said that I was right about getting an interview so she helped me schedule the interview for later this month.

Hey Andyh are you an instate or out of state applicant? I've been complete since the beginning of October as an out of state applicant and still haven't heard anything about an interview. I'm clinging to the last bit of hope, but realistically I think I should move on. Any successful stories from out of staters?

I am indeed out of state...so there is definitely hope!!!

I am still shocked to have this chance to interview at UCLA.

FYI - I was complete mid-November.

Well, all I'm gonna tell you is don't lose hope! I applied to UCLA but always thought it was outta my league since they are comparable to top tier....so when I got a secondary in late November..I only submitted it the 1st week of Jan (when they gave me a due date) because I was busy interviewing elsewhere. Anyway, exactly 15 days later, I got an interview invite that's coming up in about a week.

SO...my suggestion to you all that have not yet recieved a secondary is to get the secondary questions and just do them and keep it on your computer (I'm sure after all of these secondaries...we're all pro now). When you then get the UCLA secondary submit it ASAP! I'm an idiot and waited so long but if not, I could have interviewed at UCLA earlier!

well, i just called the office, and was told that my file is still in the hands of the committee, and that i should be hearing something within the next two to three weeks....i asked if they were still sending out interview invites, and she said yes, although i don't know if she thought i meant still interviewing or inviting...so i'm thinking this is probably a rejection 🙁 oh well.....too much traffic around ucla anyway!🙂

Just an update... I called UCLA today to ask how much longer they would be inviting people for interviews and she said "through the end of April." That seems really late but it means there's still plenty of time left for those of us waiting. Good luck everyone 🙂
