Hello,

There is no way out of discussing race because as a human race we haven't reach that point in elevation yet, which is the purpose of the post to begin with and not to pick a fight. The fact remains is that few if any white schools would have ever admitted or continue to admit minorities if they weren't pressured to do so(i.e. to have funding reduced or receive a black eye) pardon the pun. State schools face a similar plight in having to admit large numbers of in state students or face having valuable funding cut. History is clear on this. The civil rights movement started because of unfair treatment and not whining or harping on race.

Some of the comments here are troubling to me. Why would you call me a "troll"? That is very disturbing and I won't dwell on that. As far as funding, every school both private and state all receive federal funding, but are not equally funded. True, some of the burden falls on alumni, but tuition is increased mainly because of the lack of funding received from the above source. The operating cost must be made up somewhere, and the burden usually falls on the students.

Believe it or not, I am an optimist who wants to believe that race is not a factor, but that would mean shutting my eyes to the world I face. Discrimination is no excuse for failure. It is my hope, my intention,my duty to work to personally change the problems of African American dental schools. Ultimately, I feel that the responsibility is mine and that of all African Americans.

I apologize to all that were offended. But I proposition anyone to work to understand why I or any minority would feel that the road is extremely difficult for a minority.

As for myself, I make no excuses, but provide as many answers as I can. Those that I don't have(and I dont have them all) I work to find out.

To the last post, you bring light to the situation when you talk of answers, but the personal attacks do us all injustice.

Despite my optimism, I feel that there is no point to return to SDN until there is no name calling. I don't see the educational value in continuing the discussion if the post will continue to be filled with curt and derogatory comments towards myself. I feel as though the name calling are indications that I should not be here. I am completely disillusioned at anyone that results to name calling. Did I call anyone here a name or criticize his or her paragraph structure? No, nor will I ever. At this point, I resign my membership to SDN and remove my name from this forum. No one will hear of GRANT555 ever again. Is that easy enough to read? God speed.

FYI - A troll is just a person who looks for fights on posting boards......I was ASKING if that was your intention as you seemed to be very confrontational towards people who were listening to you. If your not, a simple no would do. Unfortunately I now feel your ducking your responsibility. Who have you helped? One question and your gone? This was supposed to be an intelligent exchange. Are you not returning cause you thought no one agreed with you? Was there a preconceived answer you were looking for and didn't get? There is value to this post but one can not be "thin skinned" and leave if something is not going his or her way. There are bound to be emotional and heated debates about something like this but if you don't return NOTHING HAS CHANGED.....nor will it EVER!

Hello Joseph,
You're posting in the wrong forum I believe. We've already been accepted into school and started the path. If your goal is increase the Afro-American population in dentistry they have to take the prereq.'s. During undergrad there were not that many Afro-Americans taking the science courses, those that did were successful in their endeavors. The problem, in my opinion, was not enough apply.
In any case good luck to you.

Joseph,

I am sorry that I have offended you. I am interested in discussing this topic and am glad to hear you are an optimist. I am too. I would love to hear your suggestions for improving the number of black dental school applicants and students. Please don't abandon your quest because of some misunderstanding. Just be careful next time to avoid stereotyping others. I would appreciate hearing some of your honest replies to my posts in the other thread.

Dude, I'm sorry to hear you go to such great lengths over a trivial matter, but that suits most of us fine.

Like I said in your OTHER thread (on the same subject!), I've met ONE student in my 3 years at SDN who was interested in either Meharry or Howard.

Read: your conversation you are having is one with yourself! This just isn't the proper medium to reach those who you are desiring to reach.

Good luck.

haha i think these few posts are funny. He resigned? 🙂

Wow. Almost like an obituary.

What I find troubling is accusations with no proof. "She's a witch! I'm not gonna tell you why she is, just that she is! A witch!"

Great..now i'm in this "new" post too!

I'm just wondering...where has this guy been all these years? He's talking about MINORITY oppression when all them minorities are treated equally by their respective schools!

Shoot, am I not a minority? Is the US mainly comprised of caucassion and not asian? It there a small representation of mexican, hispanic, afro amer?

One valid point made before...my science courses didn't embody many afro-american students. And the majority of who did attend made it to their goals.

It's ok guys. Ignorance is bliss, and this guy is high on life.
