No word = no interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm happy with the number of interview invites I have but I still haven't heard back from about 60 programs.

By this stage of the game, can we assume no news = bad news? Or are we being unofficially waitlisted so they can invite us if they get cancellations?

60?!?!?!

So you applied to a lot more than 60 IM programs? That seems like insane overkill.

I know some schools (even top tier) still haven't sent out all their invites (based on what current interns have told me) so I don't think it's automatically bad news. I would love to hear more qualified opinions (from program directors, current residents etc). That being said, I'm still not going to hold my breath for the majority of silent programs on my list...

I've generally felt that at this point, no response is a silent rejection.

If you've heard differently, its better than my voodoo opinion I made up in my head. But thanks for now forcing me to hold out hope for a few more weeks.

I'm still waiting on 48 so I feel your pain. I haven't gotten my step 2 ck scores back yet (I pushed off the exam to do sub-I first, which in hindsight I really regret), so I dunno if that will help push a few more invites through, and I could do programs close to my school if they get cancellations, ,but yeah, not holding my breath either.

I got an invite ~ 3 days ago?! Had applied around the same time as everyone else...

I'm assuming silent rejection or waitlist for the places I haven't heard from by this point.

Hahaha, yep. I am an IMG as I think you figured out. I have >10 interviews but for example I applied to every program in the Detroit area and didn't hear back from a single one. My app is pretty competitive, board scores are both >260 and great LORs (according to my interviewers) and high clerkship grades / MSPE etc.

I'm guessing it's that IMGs are finally starting to feel the pressure.

48? How many did you apply to total? And why?

70. Cuz I can live anywhere, have no ties to family/friends/no SO (well, I'm close to my family, but have been flitting around the country for a long time), etc and had a really hard time cutting down the nearly 400 IM programs. And I cut out the entire western half of the united states cuz of competitiveness at places I'd want to live (I don't like cali,, but places like seattle, oregon, colorado were competitive). Slightly below average US allo, way below SDN average. The way things worked out though only two parts of the US that I have lived in (Midwest and northeast) want me anyway, so I could have cut out about 15 programs in the south atlantic, but only know this in hindsight. Now I'm down to 45 pending.

For those who have been through this before or know someone who has - do interviews continue to trickle in throughout the season as people cancel, or is what we have pretty much what we have?

I ask because I have picked up a couple of extra invites in the last week or so, but those were from places whose applications I had belatedly added on.

I am pretty sure that they continue to trickle in as people cancel because I just received two since Monday and almost all of the dates were filled (like 2 dates left). I am assuming that I am a second round draft pick based on the fact that so few slots were left. I'm wondering whether it is even worth the money and effort to go interview at these places since I realize I was not their first choice. Who knows if they will even rank me.

Thanks for sharing, I was honestly just curious 🙂 That's way way way above the typical amount that people from a US Allo school (even with below average scores as you indicated) apply to.

Anybody apply to UCLA and NOT hear back yet? I've heard of people getting rejections in the mail but I've been left in the dark since I applied. Sent an email to the PC, but have gotten no response. App deadline was yesterday and I'm assuming all rejections should've been sent out by now. Is there a wait list? Thx!

apparently it's largely by snail mail...pretty weird. maybe I wrote my address wrong..who knows!

no word is most likely wait list. Programs have to keep some people in reserve as it is extremely likely most will see a number of cancellations.

Anyone heard from USCD, UC-irvine or UC-davis?

I called UCSD and was told all spots were full. I did not get an official rejection email though.

Is anybody else still waiting on a good number (>10 programs) of schools that haven't responded yet?? The waiting is killing me.

good idea..we should start like a "no word" thread. here's who I'm waiting on, please chime in if anyone has gotten rejections or wait list notices from the following schools..

UPenn
Mt. Sinai
Beth Israel
Brigham (likely spots are all full seeing as invites were bolus)
Mt. Sinai
UCSD
UCLA

I have dealt with the same situation from UCLA and have yet to receive anything from snail mail either. Not sure what's going on there.

Has NYU, Sinai, or Einstein started to send out rejections?

Any chance we can also start a thread on which places have informed us that their spots are filled?
Brown
BU
Emory

Einstein (M&W) rejected after an inquiry email.

Just cancelled my interview dates for BU and Brown a few hours ago, maybe someone can get an interview now:luck:

For those of you who are being turned down after emailing the programs: are you getting official ERAS notifications or is it all informal, ie., someone from the office replies and says something to the effect of "Thanks for your interest but unfortunately we have offerred all the interviews we're planning to give out already this year"? I emailed a couple places with zero response.

Anyone interested in swapping NYU interview dates? I have one in early Dec, looking to move to late Dec.

Cancelled Columbia and Mt. Sinai today - hopefully someone will get some good news!

Cancelled University of Washington, Vanderbilt, and Kaiser SF today.

Emory was full or had one date open last I checked.

Is anyone gonna cancel Pritzker? I'm talking to you B&W, Hopkins, MGH and UCSF invitees!

I guess sometimes no word really does mean waitlist. I heard from UCLA last week - couldn't schedule it so I passed it on to someone else hopefully! Also heard from Baylor the same week, it was weird.
