Is there a single good source that goes over nomenclature for Orgo? Between the sources I've looked over (Kaplan, Chad's videos, my class notes), each one has some slight differences in how to name compounds, and I want to make sure I'm learning the proper way that the DAT will test. Thanks

What were these differences? I used Kaplan BB and Chad's videos as well and didn't find any discrepancies except for naming a compound that had both a double bond and a triple bond in it. Personally I would just know what is in Kaplan BB and you'll be fine. They won't commonly test you over the obscure nomenclature, in fact all the nomenclature questions I saw while doing practice tests were either about substituted cycloalkanes or substituted straight chain alkanes (they do try to trick you here by drawing a straight chain that turns out not to be the longest carbon chain).

Thanks for the reply. I'll stick with Kaplan.

There's a couple minor discrepancies, but mostly it's just one source includes extra information that another one doesn't. My orgo professor also didn't teach us a couple rules for some reason, so I have to fill in the blanks. I just have to spend extra time putting it all together, and I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly.

IIRC Chad's videos didn't really go into priority ranking or complex substituents. I think he also said that for compounds with multiple functional groups, the parent chain is the longest chain that has the largest number of functional groups, but my class notes say that the parent chain is the longest chain that contains the group with the highest priority.
