from kap review note p.238, 239

2-methyloxirane (oxirane and methyl is attached one of the carbons)
; why not 1-methyloxirane?

3-(5-oxohexyl)cyclohexanone- 5-oxohexyl is attached 3rd carbon in cyclo hexanone;

why not 3-(2-oxohexyl)cyclohexanone?

thanks in advance

naming convention for oxiranes is that you begin counting with the Oxygen in the ring as 1. 1-methyloxirane would imply the methyl bonded to the O.

alkyl substituents are named starting with the carbon bonded to the ring
