How do you get loans for graduate school as a non-matriculated student?

How do you get loans for graduate school as a non-matriculated student?

You mean you aren't in undergrad anymore or you haven't matriculated at graduate school?

If you've received an acceptance you can apply for loans to graduate school once you've received your financial aid statement. If you need to apply for private loans, you just pick your lender and apply, you can usually do this online.

Since I will not have my MCAT score by the deadline (Aug 1) for the graduate school, I can't be a matriculated student.

I still don't understand what you're saying.

Matriculate = be added to the list of students enrolled at a university.

If you don't have your MCAT score, you wouldn't have been interviewed yet and thus would not have an acceptance or be a matriculated student.

Maybe let's examine it from this angle: what are you trying to obtain loans for if you are not a matriculated student?

I'm sorry let me see if I understand this situation. You are a student applying to graduate school but you won't have your MCAT by the deadline required. If this is correct this would mean that you wish to start graduate school in Fall 2009.

If this is the case you cannot obtain student loans to cover any cost because you are not a graduate student. You have to be currently enrolled (or about to enter) in a graduate program in order to obtain loans. As well, any institution you are talking to should be able to help you through this via the financial aid office.

Please tell me if I am incorrect?

yes.

I want to know if there are alternative loans beside student loans.

Just any other options.

I dont' know of any that you could get in the interim. I'm really sorry. Good luck. Hopefully you can get a job out there to get you through.

No, you can't get loans to live on if you aren't in school. You'll need to get a job to pay your expenses if you're not in school.

Also, non-matriculated student is an oxymoron.

I will be in school but non-matriculated.

Ok I think I finally understand. You're going to take classes without being enrolled in an actual program because you are trying to get into the program but won't meet the deadline. So you'll take classes in the meantime and hopefully get into the program on the next admissions cycle. Got it.

If you are taking classes, you can apply for financial aid via the FAFSA. However, the method you are describing is not usually used by full-time students. I took some graduate level classes as a non-matriculated student while applying for medical school but I had a full-time job at the time. Rather than applying for financial aid, you're better off getting yourself a job and taking some classes part-time as you try to get into the program.
