Im doing some non medical related research with a professor at school. Its in the field of chemistry dealing with carbon nanotubes.

How do DO schools view reasearch? Would it be benefical to continue with this reasearch or try to find something medically related??

DOs certainly don't look down on research and cannot hurt you. Do you like the research? If so, continue. If not then don't. Do you have enough medical research or experience. Are you currently applying? If so, do you think it will affect your outcome this late?

From my experience, DO schools dont care about research. Mine was never brought up during interviews, but if you are interested in it you should continue and it would be listed as an activity.

I wouldn't say they don't care.... I was asked about my environmental health research. I would say it isn't emphasized though.

I would agree that it's something that you should do if you're interested. If you're unsure it can't hurt to try it. I don't think it will sway an admissions committee either way. I did some non-medical research myself in undergrad, but when asked if I was interested in doing more research in med school I would be honest and say I wasn't.

I did have my research come up in most of my interviews. They weren't crazy questions, I was usually just asked to clarify some points.

So... if you're interested in the medical research I would say go for it. If you're not don't worry about it.

I've always wondered this too. I have research on the behavioral ecology of squirrels. I suppose it won't hurt to put it down. It just shows that you are detail orientated and can commit to a research topic.

I would write the research down as extracurricular. It is never really frowned upon. I would say though that if you do put it down make sure you know what you are talking about. Also I agree with several other posters and would say that if you are interested continue, if not then stop.

DO schools don't care. They prefer EMT work or some other clinical contact.
